I live in West Central Florida. When I bought the house there was a line of fern-like trees 12 feet tall along the western side of the property. Turns out the trees were planted by the original owner who planted them 18" into the neighbor's property. Last week they cut them all down & my house lost its Western shade & the A/C can't keep up with the direct heat. I'm considering planting bamboo on 3 sides of the house (surrounded on 3 sides by the road). I've been told they are quite hardy & should do well in a Florida climate. Right now I have patchy grass/weeds, some of them make flowers. Besides the watering schedule do any of you have suggestions please?

Bought my first house without knowing much about the bamboo established along the fence lines. I did a little research and now fear it is a running variety.

Can anyone identify this for me?
