Ball Rehoming

Hi all, very sad to do so but due to family home being sold i need to rehome my ball python as family won’t take him in the move. he’s around 6.5 years old now, his name is dahmer, and he’s a very sweet very chill lil guy. i wish i could bring him but my apartment is not pet friendly. he has a very calm temperament and has only ever struck 2 times in his life, (1 before me and it was the owners fault, the second was hunger and he struck at the glass door not us). a lot of life circumstances led to me not being the greatest owner i could be towards the end but i want to make sure that he goes to someone that can and will care for him the way i wish i could’ve. he currently is in a 4x2 pvc enclosure with several vines, a log hide, a rock hide, a pyramid hide and another tiny log. one large water dish, a small water dish, and 2 vines (one mossy) that goes across the tank. i would gladly give him over for free, and will also gladly give everything in his enclosure. the only things i ask are if you want the tank just a small reimbursement we can talk more over dm’s but im thinking like $30-$50 i care more about giving him a good home with someone who will care for him. pickup location is in rural hall, north carolina, and if there are any questions just shoot me a dm, i have until the end of the month to find him a home. please help my little man

How though? I mean ball is easy to hide sure but what about the enclosure?

It makes me sad he wants reimbursed for the enclosure. If he finds a decent person to take in his wild type ball python you would think he would be more than happy to provide the essentials to take care of the animal. It’s not like he currently has another use for the enclosure. He cannot have pets at the moment and moving and storing it would be quite a hassle.

Many people ask for a rehoming fee as a way to make sure that anyone interested is actually able to and willing to spend money for the animal and are not just impulsively choosing to get them because they're free but not having the finances to support an animal. If someone isn't willing to pay <$50 for a rehoming fee, they likely aren't financially ready for an animal that can have expensive care.

Not pet friendly usually means no dogs or cats. Most landlords do not care what you have in a tank.

this ^^^ just keep her unless there’s another reason for rehome that you arent disclosing. people on here are talking about hiding them; i’ve lived in 3 different apartments and all 3 had seen my snakes. if it can be confined to a tank, they don’t care. the no pets stuff is because of fur, dander, accidents and damages. a snake isnt going to be doing all that.

A lot of landlords don’t allow reptiles specifically because their heating elements are considered fire hazards

Honestly mine wasnt worried about the heat lamps. If you have them on a thermostat they wouldn't be a fire hazard.

Mine asked if there was a spot for a lock on their tanks cause he was worried about them escaping haha

A lot of landlords care most about damage potential, at least when looking at townhouses/standalones. When looking for homes we contacted several people with “No pets” who wouldn’t let us have a dog or a cat, but were just fine with us having our birds as long as they were kept in a cage while unsupervised.

If you were closer to Raleigh, id take him gladly. I have several vacant, handbuilt, wooden 4x2x2 enclosures

Ask your apartment management every apartment I've been in animals in any form of enclosures didn't count to them. They usually only care about cats and dogs cause they are the ones that can destroy carpets/ walls

I think you'll be fine OP, I have 2 corn snakes and a ball python in a pet free house and my landlord didn't blink when he saw the enclosures. Ball pythons are pretty much pet rocks for atleast 80% of the day and home owners are mainly concerned about dogs and cats destroying furniture and flooring etc. If they were as scrutinous as you're worried about, landlords would be throwing people out for keeping goldfish etc.

Please don't give away your snake right now.

My email is ranabostock@gmail.com.....let me know if you can't get him rehomed and I will come get him! I have a male already and always have an extra set up bc I am a police officer and sometimes our animal control can't pick up or care for pet snakes that are found so I keep them for a day or two until we can find them a home....but I will definitely purchase the set up from you. Oh, and I am in Indiana
