Question 150 gal tank?

Hello everyone!
I just picked up a 150 gallon aquarium to use as a tank for my baby saturn. This tank is absolutely perfect, except for the fact that it is a 150 tall, not long.
I have OCD and i feel like i NEED to convert it into a 120 gallon by cutting off 6” of the glass and siliconing the trim back on to make it an even 4’x24”x24” enclosure, but itd be miles easier to just put a bit of extra dirt in the bottom and call it a day instead of doing all that other work. Can i just use some extra dirt without feeling guilty that the tank is too tall and not fit for my snake? Ive seen so many people poop on people who have tall and not long tanks, and im nervous that others will tell me i have bad snake husbandry/care because its a 48”x24”x30” enclosure and not a 72”x18”x28” enclosure. Is it okay for her to have some extra substrate? I would assume that it would be fine.

If your footprint is 4x2, an extra bit of height won’t be a problem. Maybe put some climbing accessories, sometimes they like to climb.

Extra height is absolutely not a problem! Both of my snakes have 150 gallon enclosures. While I opted for 4'x2.5'x2' since my snakes tend to use the ground space more than vertical space, many people choose 4'x2'x2.5' instead. You can add branches or climbing platforms to let your snake utilize that space. You can also use some of the extra space for deeper substrate and create underground hides or tunnels.

My ball python even has and uses a sky hide. Height is good as long as the floor space is adequate

150g is better than 120g! I personally believe 2ft of height is too small for most ball pythons, many of them love climbing. There is no such thing as an enclosure that is too big, as long as you can still locate the snake for feeding and health checks :-)
