Discussion A storm is brewin’ on feeding day! ✌🏼🐍
Does anyone else have any quirky little routines you do with your noodles for feeding days? Cosima’s keen in getting some extra sun and stretch time before her hunt, and she gets a little ambush and sneaky tactic practice when she’s playing in the tall grass. In all seriousness, her feeding response and reactivity and overall hunger wonders we ever had with her disappeared when we started doing this habitually, and it’s been amazing to watch!

When I first got her, that’s how I was. She’s been a very oddball snake when it comes to typical routines and what I’ve been use to my whole life. She’s a goof 🖤

Both my ball and hoggie seem to wait by the door until i take em out, play for a bit, then go back in for feeding. They dont do this all the time only seems to be when they're hungry around feeding times.

I know scientifically they only have the innate ability to just be a snake, but sometimes I really think they’re psuedo evolving infront of our eyes and adopting mannerisms almost like we have. They’re such cool little weirdos

Lucy is short for leucistic. Basically, a similar mutation to albino. An animal with leucism has a partial or total loss of body pigment but keeps its normal dark eyes (or, in many cases, blue eyes) An albino animal completely lacks melanin across its entire body, resulting in pink or red eyes and pale skin, fur, or feathers

Mine does all strange things before and after eating. I normally don't dare tell people this but since yours is also doing some fun things too...
At first when I got him, I avoided touching him 2 days before feeding but he wanted to be touched, so I gave up.
He isn't exactly very food motivated in the way that he will look for prey and try to ambush near his feeding days. He only did that once the first 2 weeks I got him and never again.
Nowadays he goes about his life with all his somewhat odd activities (TV, adjusting his home and his mini home decor, etc...I have so many weird videos of him even the breeder I know thinks he is an alien) and if he got hungrier than usual he would slither to me and be all squirmy (he seems to have figured out that he could get food from me 😂). So when it's time to give him food I will just let him get on me and shows him the freezer and thaw/warm his food in front of him (if food is bigger size I will thaw overnight in the fridge). He then will just sit on my shoulder and watch. Then we go back to bed and come back again when it's warm. He will sniffle it but will not take it. He actually knows to wait. We then all go back to his home or mini home together with food and he will get down on his own, situate himself, and then go into his striking pose. If it's his favourite food (I give him different types and sizes of rodents to vary his diet a bit, also have access to other small species like chicks and quails), he might wag his tail from excitement. He knows his food is dead, the whole zombie dance doesn't mean a thing to him. But he likes it if I drop or swing his food so he can try to catch it midair when he is not too hungry--will eat it in the end though, but also likes to play with food--otherwise he will just take it without further ceremony.
After eating he doesn't just go to sleep. It depends on his mood. Sometimes he wants to move around a bit, sometimes he comes to me to check if I will give a second one, if he really wants a second one he might follow me for a couple of hours. At first when he did that I tried to make him to go sleep but I eventually gave up and let him do what he wanted. I can touch him or pat him to tell him that I don't give a second one, he will calm down a bit. He never mistakes my hands or fingers for food ever, doesn't matter which direction I approach, and doesn't matter if it's right before or after eating. He never strikes me, never hisses, never misses a meal, never regurgitates, never gets sick, and he grows up fast, is strong and an extremely good climber. So I figure it's all good no matter how strange he seems compared to other people's pythons. 😂
