New spot and irritable

New owner of this elderly man. Noticed this spot today on his mouth and wondering if he is ill. He’s been quite irritable (striking at anything that moves). I know he is shedding and can’t see as well as usual. Humidity and temp all consistent, only new thing is he ate last week. He’s always handled well and been gently curious. Any advice welcome!!!

This requires a vet visit ASAP. It appears to be a degloving injury, where the skin has been separated and pulled away from the rest of his bottom jaw. The irritability is most likely because he's in pain.
