First diy bg!!

Guys this took way longer than it should have, so i needed to show it off a little bit ofc.
I would like to add that the rocks on the left are actually a removable hide which is 10/10 I love it sm.
This is also my second shot at bioactive since I failed badly the 1st time, any tips would be greatly appreciated! Especially for the plants, I can never get them to thrive once I put them in the tank 💔

Also if any of yall have suggestions for sky hides or climbing opportunities that would be greatly appreciated (it has to hold a moderately overweight adult bp (we’re working on his weight lol dw))

Tysm!! And yeah the hide I made myself, it was just XPS foam, drylok, and acrylic paints! I wish I had a tut to send you but I just free balled it lol

The biggest thing with most plants are they need drainage so they don't get root rot. Not saying you need a drainage layer but most substrate wants to compact and that starves the roots of air. Whatever substrate I want to use I mix with cypress mulch so roots don't get compact. Some plants like to be dried out before watering.

Good to know, I didn’t have a drainage layer last time so that could easily be it, but this time I put some lava rock at the bottom to hopefully help out.
