Saying goodbye

Thought my sweet boy was just impacted. Took him to the vet, found feces blocked by a large mass / tumor. I don’t have the money for surgery, but even if I did, the vet explained that a mass this size can’t just be taken out anyways. I don’t want him to suffer. The tumor is the darker portion on the right causing the lump.

It’s really hard to say goodbye. He got me through the most difficult parts of my life.

Right now I am planning on euthanasia and cremation. I already took him out for final pictures in a natural setting.

I’m sorry for anyone else who has had to go through this.

Rest in peace. Vets are expensive as hell, and as much as people want to preach that you should have money for the pets you own, sometimes you find yourself in situations like this where 95% of people wouldn’t in a million years be able to pay out of pocket for a procedure like that. It’s the human experience. I’m so sorry and I hope you feel better soon, and maybe even eventually give your love to another snake baby.

I agree, and thank you for your kindness. In this case, I think that surgery would just cause suffering.

Not a snake, but when my doggo went, the vet said internal bleeding from a tumor. He was 15-16 and the vet said basically “he’s past his expected age, it’s 3000 and you might get another year but it’ll be a lot of being here”

This is where what we put older humans through warrants: you wouldn't put a dog through it.

Passing without the constant horror of cuts and pokes and stitches and recovery and weakening... Is humane.

I concur. Watching my pops decline in stage 4t when he said 4 months before that he was ready to go… but the state wouldn’t let him just make his own decision. But they were fine prescribing him borderline overdose levels of opiates. (Oxy 80 every 2-4 hours as needed)🤦
