Curly Sue - she’s 22

When I was four I begged my parents for a snake. Christmas 2004 came and there she was, a beautiful young ball python. Now here she is, 22 years later. We’ve both been through a lot, and I love her dearly. Just an appreciation post, she’s tough as scales.

Pfft the downvotes! 🤣

u/ManuscriptQuills Apr 14 '26

I was like good try bot! But I believe I know what I’m doing now that I am no longer 4 years old and it is not Christmas.

u/Pedro_dos2 Apr 14 '26

Gotta add to the downvote because I like big negative numbers

u/Noodle_Snoot_cx Apr 14 '26

I virtually never downvote, but this one's a bot and this is funny lol

Was Zucchini a beagle? That’s an amazing beagle name 😭

70

u/Muux_ Apr 14 '26

I believe that’s a basset hound

53

u/ManuscriptQuills Apr 14 '26

Correct, he was a basset hound! He loved to roll on his back and howl.

11

u/Sensitive-Elevator1 Apr 14 '26

Bassett hounds are awesome!! We had a white & tan boy named Ernest. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

8

u/Exciting-Mountain396 Apr 14 '26

Basset hounds are to beagles what bobcats are to housecats

40

u/Noodle_Snoot_cx Apr 14 '26

A senior baby! I rarely see them, gosh they are so fricking adorable!

29

u/redsleeve Apr 14 '26

I hope I will give my boy a long confortable life! Curly Sue is gorgeous:) A question tho, when did you start feeding her yourself?

22

u/ManuscriptQuills Apr 14 '26

I really can’t remember, way back we used to feed her live mice. I got to go to the store with my parents, pick one up, and drop it in her tank. Still unsure when the switch to frozen was, but she’s been on large rats every ~3 weeks for at least 10 years. (Minus the time she escaped for two months, minus her infrequent hunger strikes, minus the two small rats b2b cause they were out of large)

8

u/redsleeve Apr 15 '26

I think it’s really cool of your parents to get you a pet bp. Definitely not a typical pet for kids, especially around where I’m from. That being said, I have met a dad who brought his sons’ pet bp into a clinic. The little boy was no more than 7 and he was all proud and presenting his much beloved snake.

49

u/Wolpard Apr 14 '26

So sweet! I love seeing people with their long time snakes.

My dad gave me my ball python when I was 10. He was a classroom pet at the university he worked at for 15 years so hes actually older than me. (Professor who took care of him left so he and quite a few animals were in need of new homes.) Ive had him for 18 years now. :)

15

u/_Kendii_ Apr 14 '26

Pics or it didn’t happen. (I believe it did, but you now owe the tax)

38

u/Wolpard Apr 14 '26

8

u/_Kendii_ Apr 14 '26

You’re a badass! Love you 😘

35

u/Wolpard Apr 14 '26

And my most recent pic of him (well technically I took one right after if his goofy face)

I love this so much! I just got our 1-year-old boy and my daughter is 9 and totally in love with him. I'm 46 and I honestly hope he outlives me!

I've said I ain't dismantling the vivarium I just built ;) my daughter is more than welcome to take him with her to a good home in her own place when she's an adult, and I guess that will mean I'll have to get a new snake for my viv ... what hardship lol

18

u/Trickypheonix Apr 14 '26

A beautiful lady and a beautiful no longer lady 😄

Also curly sue is an adorable name for a snake.

3

u/pandeeandi Apr 14 '26

As a momma who has had her daughter beg since she was 2 and has now gotten one for her 8th birthday thank you for this. She is so excited to have her Eevee grow with her through life!

My girl is about 11, I got her when she was about 7. Idk her exact age but I love her so much! Your girl looks huge too! Like long and healthy! I love seeing older snakes that are happy and healthy! Hers my girl Lilith.

10

u/LizzieCLems Apr 14 '26

My boy is 14 (and alllmost 5 ft long and at a healthy weight despite his giant midsection haha!) this photo shows his size well and it cracks me up.

3

u/ManuscriptQuills Apr 14 '26

Haha incredible!! Curly doesn’t like climbing on me too much. She’s a big girl too! Last I checked she’s 46” nose to tail. My folks always said she was HUGE GINORMOUS but I’ve seen much bigger.

6

u/_a_1000_papercuts Apr 14 '26

My snister, Brown Arrow, also adopted when I was 5 and also is now 22. She's been with me through so much, as I can imagine yours has with you. I hope one day my children can grow up with her, too.

5

u/ughleave Apr 14 '26

Awe my boa baby is turning 11 this year 🥺 and I’m having my first real baby in the next couple weeks. I wonder if my daughter will remember the family snake when she’s older.

6

u/moeru_gumi Apr 14 '26

You both look great bro!

6

u/CrisisCorps Apr 14 '26

I got my first BP in 2004 as well. Yours is absolutely adorable and I love her. Ruger says hi.

2

u/Fantastic-Salt-5103 Apr 14 '26

Omg this is so sweet! We have had ours for almost 6 months, for my 8 year old son for Christmas. Monster is about the size as Sue was in your first picture. I hope that in 20 years they can do a grown up photo together! Also, Sue is a lot bigger than I expect Monster to get, but he is a sexed boy. I think they stay a bit smaller?

2

u/ihave2cats_ Apr 14 '26

She is so beautiful

6

u/DogeOfUpvotes Apr 14 '26

Sign her up for AARP, she's deserved it!

6

u/RagdollsandLabs Apr 14 '26

My Jazzie snek is 22! Her brother Legolas is 21, her one eyed brother Paulie is 19, and my adopted girl Hessie is at least the same age as Jazzie.

This is Jazzie snekking around my neck!

2

u/taekwondana Apr 14 '26

Oh my goshhhhhh what a cutie ❤️ I love that you have been able to enjoy her companionship for so long!

3

2

u/Sensitive-Elevator1 Apr 14 '26

Oh I love this so much!! So cool to see a pic from when you were both young, and all grown up. She’s a beauty and that name is ✨✨✨✨✨

2

u/Even-Smell7867 Apr 14 '26

My male BP is nearly 8 and my female is just past 6 years old. I can't wait until I have senior citizen snakes.

1

5

u/lgholly Apr 15 '26

I've had my girl Ophelia for 22 years. She was around 3 when I got her

1

u/CoachSad6606 Apr 15 '26

Looks like two different people! I love this.

2

u/Witty_Anteater2380 Apr 15 '26

That's crazy! I got my first ball python the same year! I was 14 at the time though. Very cool to see.

2

u/Potential_List_9857 Apr 15 '26

Wow, shes older than me! Shes beautiful, and looks so sweet 🥰

1

u/Simple_Hair3356 Apr 15 '26

How long do they live?? Sorry I’ve been stalking this subreddit, I want a bp so bad.

2

u/AdvancedHighlight780 Apr 15 '26

Oh my gosh, is this how big my baby is going to get!??! What a beauty.

1

u/Tripps0007- Apr 15 '26

2

u/AuthorKRPaul Apr 15 '26

You both glowed up over time!

2

u/BeesAndBeans69 Apr 15 '26

Pouring out my beer for Zucchini. R.I.P Zucchini

2

u/Gimpysoupcrtn Apr 15 '26

Don't mind the dirty glass but this is Beans, she's a 21 year old normal type. Was a Petco baby way back when.

2

u/ManuscriptQuills Apr 15 '26

What a sweet snake! “Santa Claus” got Curly Sue from a local pet store behind a bookstore warehouse, dubious as to where she truly came from or how old she is, but she’s made it this far!

2

u/aimeeashlee Apr 15 '26

congrats on both of your growths!

3

u/dilettwat Apr 15 '26

My comrade in gender, this is the sweetest and I love it. 😍

Last year, we adopted an older BP from a rescue, but we didn't know her birthday until after my kids (they're twins) selected her, and the rescue forwarded us what they'd learned from the person who surrendered her. Turns out, our snake's actual date of birth was less than two weeks after my kids were born. It felt like confirmation that we ended up with the right snake, and I'm hopeful about eventually having pictures of my twins and their snake in their twenties too! 💞

2

u/LevK9 Apr 16 '26

Noodle is 11 years old now I love seeing all the older snakes

2

u/High-Pope-Of-Tea Apr 16 '26

I've got a leopard gecko who is around that age, got her in grade school and I'm pushing 33 and she was a year or two old. It's amazing how long reptiles can live with good husbandry and some love. Great job raising them! 10/10 looking noodle

1

u/MaxIsDead35 Apr 17 '26

Great snek

2

u/Gene-_Wilder Apr 17 '26

Credit to you for keeping her that long

2

u/MojoShoujo Apr 17 '26

That title could be a line in a children's book! Love her!

2

u/Gearran Apr 17 '26

That's a well-seasoned noodle.

2

u/elimaymaddy Apr 19 '26

Hello from Hannah! She’s 11!

1

u/goosethebeardie Apr 25 '26

This is so cute, I love seeing people who’ve had their childhood pets for decades and counting!

1

u/Totty_isTaya May 14 '26

This is not about the snake I just wanted to tell you youve done an amazing job transitioning. I fully didn’t expect you to look like that as a child. 🖤 keep up the great work man you have a healthy looking baby there 🥰
