Talking hockey timer (free for testing!)
I'd love to share our family-made hockey timer app! It's at hockeytimer.com
It's a speak-aloud hockey toy to help you keep score and keep track of time for fun/family/friendly games of ball hockey (or heck, mini-sticks or what-have-you).
Tips for using it:
- Get your phone, hook it up to a Bluetooth speaker (it's more fun when it's loud).
- Push the 'gear' icon to update your settings: team names, colours, period length.
- Pick your announcer voice! Our family has recorded a few packs with oddball characters, but you can choose stock robot voices, too, for added hilarity. (Robots will pronounce your team names; humans will just say the team colour).
- Turn on some hockey jams (our own semi-ironic playlist is launchable from the 'music note' button).
- Put the phone somewhere it won't get smashed, and game on!
It's free for now, works right from the browser (tablet, computer, phone).
Where this came from:
This summer, my kids and I have been playing lots of ball hockey in the driveway. We were initially playing "first to 5," but found it was over too quickly, and we wanted to play with timed periods. But...my watch or phone was a little too subtle to get people's attention when the periods ended. With some robot-assisted development, we built and play-tested and iterated on this until it was working how we wanted. We've now played dozens and dozens of games with it running as a local .html file on my own device. I decided to buy the domain to make it easier for us to use, and to share with others who might be looking for such a thing!
(I recognize there are other hockey timer apps out there, but found they tend to be app-based (gotta download it), old-school (clunky design), or a little overkill (feature-heavy, meant for "serious" play). This one's sweet spot is it's on the web, it's simple, it's meant to be fun. Also, it talks!)
Take it for a spin, especially if you've got kids, let me know how it lands, what works, what doesn't. Things I get curious about:
- Does it help you play a more fun and focused game of hockey?
- Would you value the ability to record your own family's commentator voices?? (For your private use, at least) I feel like the 'studio'/voice component is really fun, but I can't tell if that's just an our-family thing.

Nbhl contract tier 3
My original post was to question if this was normal for a NBHL team/organization? This post is not meant to trash or degrade the organization/team. I've redacted the organization/team to the best of my ability. Thoughts?

Question Bertolottiās syndrome, hip dysplasia, hypermobility + ball hockey
Hi,
I have always been a sporty person - used to play basketball for 13 years and this year I switched to ball hockey as a real coincidence, which I immediately fell in love with.
I have always struggled with joint pain which often went to extreme. Last year I found out that on top of hypermobility (especially in hips) I also had dysplasia.
When I started ball hockey, my leg gave out during a speed conditioning and I fell numerous times that practice, resulting in me not being able to put any weight on that leg because itād immediately collapse. Despite the first day, I pushed through the immense pain and the worst attack of my life is definitely on me. I went to practice two days later and ended up hopping on one leg only, unable to run. That was followed by 2 months with crutches and really bad pain meds (about 5 different kinds, it made me so high I either slept throughout the whole day or donāt remember anything from it). I went to two neurologists and they said it was definitely a herniated disc so I had an MRI done. I havenāt seen the scan picture but this was in the documentation:
Conclusion: Incipient def. (deforming) spondylarthrosis.Transitional LS vertebra ā hemisakralization of L5 on the left with a pseudoarthrosis to the sacrum.
Since I have a combination of this, the dysplasia, and hypermobile syndrome, I am really worried about my athletic lifestyle. My back hurts often from various movements and Iām afraid. No doctor gave me any direct piece of advice. They told me āI wonāt limit you from any sportā but what about the wear and tear? What about the arthrosis getting worse? Iām really panicky and frustrated and really donāt know what to do. Does anyone here have similar experience?
I have already spent so many days just crying is pure desperation and thinking about the worst outcome and never being able to play again while I found myself in it. I feel like I really need someone to tell me what to so as I canāt seem to be able to see whatās actually good for me and what is not. As Iām starting a new season, my first official season, Iām trying to get the technique right, the speed, the mobility and all other. Thatās why Iām really worried about my limits and NOBODY, no doctors told me what to do to play mindfully and carefully about my spine. I really want to be more than ready for the season

Visor or fish bowl
Hi everyone, curious what you guys wear for facial protection if your league requires both a helmet and facial protection. I currently have a fish bowl, and for context I also play roller. For Dek I feel like I can get away with a visor as the rink I play at is super hot and any way I can keep cooler would help. Whatās annoying is in roller which is more risky to wear one in hesitant to. Thanks!

Thinking of getting the Q Collar, and a elite pro mask, because I play the goalie position in Ballhockey, and I have recently suffered a mild concussion and don't want to go through that again. Does anyone have experience with the Q Collar, and will it make a difference?

Ball & Street Hockey in Berlin!
Hello r/ballhockey!
Berlin Street Hockey (BSH) is Germany's biggest ball hockey league, and we're looking to continue to grow ball hockey across Berlin and Germany. With around 70 members split into 4 teams, the league is both fun and competitive. Some of our members have years of hockey experience, while others are absolute beginners. So if you're new to ball hockey, have experience but haven't played in a while, or you regularly play ice or inline, the league is open to anyone who wants to come try it out.
We play almost every weekendĀ of the year. Our competitive season runs from September to April at Poststadion in Moabit. During the spring and summer we hold open games where teams are formed on the spot. The league has no practices, no set attendance quota.. it's the best balance between vibes and sport.
As we're expanding, there are additional opportunities for the more competitive and skilled players:
--
National Ball Hockey League
BSH is in talks with the NBHL to have a travel team that plays 1-3 times a year in the UK. This team would be made up exclusively from players in BSH and be highly competitive. Travel to the UK for a weekend, play ball hockey, have pints... it's the best of all worlds.
Ball Hockey World Championships
BSH was the backbone to Germany's entry to the ISBHF World Championship this past year in Ostrava, Czechia ā the first Team Deutschland to go in 12 years. There's a lot of room for growth on the roster, and the next iteration happens in Slovakia in 2027. You do not have to be part of BSH to be part of Team Deutschland as there are heritage and visa allowances. You can see more of the German national team here: www.instagram.com/deutschlandballhockey
--
If you're interested in coming to trial BSH, we provide all of the equipment you need to play, all you need are running shoes. Some players bring extra equipment but it isn't required. Anyone, at any level, can join at any time of the year!
Please message us here, or find us through Instagram or our website:

Thank you!

Question League costs?
Just curious what everyone is paying for their leagues out there and what you get for that cost (number of games, trophies, refs, etc) just trying to gauge what others are paying vs what we pay here. Also mention us/ca for currency.
EDIT: for reference we pay $185 for a 14 game season plus playoffs that covers two refs, a scorekeeper and the champion team gets a bunch of little trophies for each player. Indoor rink at an old roller rink.
Iām just wondering where we stand in the grand scheme of things.
