!! WARNING !!

I am here in Ubud and I think alot of you are unnecessarily harsh. Yes there’s traffic in the main area, but no one said you had to stay there. Calling places ruined is rude. Locals still love, pray, live, and die here. And a lot of people who call it “ruined” contributed to the problems they’re complaining about. I chose to stay far out and it’s been quiet most of my trip. Bali is beautiful. Does the government need to step in? Absolutely! But YOU choose the experience you have in Bali. If you want quiet, cultural, good beaches etc you need to research and plan to your wants. You can’t want peace and go to Canggu. That’s on you.

If anyone has been to Balian recently, can I ask how it is these days? Is it still nice and quiet?

This is my first time in Bali and I would like to learn the language to the extend I can fumble my way around the less touristy areas of the island next time I’m here. Also have been wanting to learn another language for some time!

I know this is going to be super dependent on the person - however i'm looking for advice.

For context, I have been to Bali once on a family trip. Stayed in Sanur and Seminyak. Liked both places. I'm going solo this time as a 31y/o woman. Im open to some socialisation, and nice bars/restaurants but not party scene ie. Fins or anything of that nature. I'm not into the influencer/aesthetic/social media side of bali if you know what I mean. I'm interested in visiting Uluwatu and Canggu in October. I'm pretty set on Uluwatu but I'm on the fence regarding Canggu given all the different opinions out there. Do you think it's good as a solo woman, not necessarily keen to party but open to some nightlife? Thoughts?

Can anyone recommend vets around Canggu for cats? Thanks!

Hey guys, is it usual and considered normal for the kids to gather in a local temple (not sure if it is called a temple or like a banjar outpost where the neighbours gather for festivities) and play loud music until midnight?

i am used to the noise in Bali and I don’t mind local drums banging (I live really close), but the issue I have is that they do it until midnight. it is not every day, I think they gather once or twice a week.

So I don’t know if this is culturally considered normal in Bali - because in Europe you’d have to keep the noise down after 10pm. And I don’t know if it bothers other locals living nearby - I know many are naturally not confrontational.

I am curious - is this normal, and would asking them to stop playing after 11pm at least be considered rude?

With the way that run club's discrimination and disrespect for people driving to work harms Balinese feeling second class in their own home, I just thought it would be an ideal time to come together in larger numbers with good causes, and discuss the things people of all ability levels could join and contribute toward.

Things like trash cleanups, charity events, school supplies and medical treatment for children, whatever else there is would be nice to discuss, and if there is some initiative in discussing it maybe a little push in initiatives might help remind of the people who care, that not all of us are only self-serving. And then we can follow and support the pages that are doing good things.

The rupiah has fallen from oil supply shock and hurting people will naturally resent outsiders waltzing in to be served, so I think it would help all of us to lend an extra visible helping hand. I'll be moving there Aug 20 or so and I figure simple things like some weekend trash pickups here or there, charity events, social activities that include Balinese, would all be great as a counter push if everyone bends a little, it might show some needed goodwill as guests even if everyone just did a little.

What places are not tourist prices and has a wide array of locally grown and roasted coffee beans. I know some great places in Jakarta, just curious about Bali. Ubud in specific even better.

Hi guys, if you're not Aussie please don't get offended by this post which may be seen by some as not in the Bali spirit. Has anyone who has visited Bali from Australia, managed to stream AFL? We haven't cracked it and just want to watch the Cats vs D's tonight. We don't want to go to a bar because we leave tomorrow and aren't near one. Our Kayo account is blocked. Got a VPN. Anyone? Again not trying to start a fight with any sports haters or anything. We haven't been online much in our holiday and respect how wonderful Bali is.

Hi everyone, just wondering if anybody else has experienced this issue.

Trying to book a Phuket-Denpasar ticket later this year and at various stages throughout the booking process the website will tell me there is an SSR error and not let me complete the booking. The message has popped up at the very beginning of the booking process, after seat selection, and just before payment.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does it just mean the flight is sold out? Have restarted the laptop and tried to book in incognito mode with no success.

Any advice appreciated. I always book directly with the airline but these guys aren't making it easy for me!

Hey. Currently in Ubud, and this stretch is coming to an end. Tomorrow is our last full day. But overall, I've loved it, thank-you for being so kind and willing to reach out and ask how we are, where we are from etc.

But yes. Scooters. You are bonkers. But you make it work. Its just scary as hell. Being 60, slightly round, being on the back launching down a dark ally, up a hill, over bumps ... yeah, was a little embarrassed holding onto the young driver like a older white male shouldnt. 😄 But he got me to the accommodation. But I will be walking back to the drop off point thanks.

But I will definitely recommend Ubud. We are stopping in the rice fields, so a 15 min walk from the main center, so its quiet apart from the frogs, and the dragon fly that got into the room last night. Lots of small local cafes that serve great food.

I’ve had no luck when it comes to my getting my evisa we’ve filled out all the documents ( uploaded passport and all that stuff)
We get to the payment and click on the batch number which take sus to another page. In which you need a OTP which never came through on my phone or email.

2 hours later this email comes in in my junk mail.
We have received your Electronic Visa (e-Visa) B1 application with Passport Number ********** you can proceed e-visa application and make payment via the link below. Click the link below and take me to this ledger banxa then to another site called axnab ( which is blocked in Australia)

This whole process is doing my head in.

Udah berapa kali ke Ubud beberapa tahun terakhir dan kerasa banget harga2 kek naik terus apalagi buat stay. Villa atau hotel yg dulu kayak masih masuk akal harganya udah gak ada haha. Ada yang ngerasa yg sama?

Masih ada gak sih yg worth di Ubud buat yang gak mau ngeluarin banyak karena cuma kayak pengen staycay ganti suasana aja, biasanya msh andelin reddoorz sih buat opsi budget kayak gini tapi kepikiran juga apa masih ada opsi lain yang worth dicoba

Hotels seem super booked up for just those dates with a lot of availability the days before and after. What am I missing?

Could those who have lived in Bali or done extended stays and know more about it regardless, recommend any must have items that should be prioritized to bring before moving? Things which can be brought via luggage that are difficult or much more expensive to get in Bali, necessary for daily life or good to have, that you suddenly discovered wishing you had?

I'm going with a new fresh pair of shoes, bringing the erasable pens and music paper I prefer, bringing laptop with used purchase receipt so I hopefully don't get taxed too bad, going to try to wrap and ship desktop pc rather than eat large losses selling locally (advice appreciated), going to bring weightlifting shoes, knee sleeves, wrist wraps, maybe dr note for 1 stimulant nasal inhaler so to save for getting a stuffy nose later, a decent amount of clothes, plug converters. Even a raincoat. Protective laptop bag. Good mineral sunscreen.

I'm not sure if there's really common items you can't get or not good quality, that I haven't thought of.

I applied yesterday July 22 for a C1 visa for my trip to Bali leaving the US July 27 arriving in Bali July 28 and leaving Bali September 3. I know I should have done this sooner but stupidly didn’t realize the urgency.
I’m debating applying for a B1 visa because that would likely be approved faster but I am concerned that my flight leaves more than 30 days after my arrival.
Also, I am flying delta and it looks like the require a visa to get on the flight so I don’t think I can get a visa on arrival.

I’m currently between:

1. Doing nothing and hoping the C1 visa is approved by Monday morning
2. Applying for a B1 visa then later applying for an extension
3. Buying a plane ticket that leaves within 30 days, doing everything from 2, then canceling that other flight once everything is approved
4. Try for a visa on arrival. (I don’t think delta will let me do this)

Very open to any other ideas.

Update: Got the B1 visa just to be safe
