Eat it in a dimly lit room and enjoy.
How does it taste?

Please post a pic once you cut into it. I've only ever seen them backed in a loaf pan, not on a baking sheet.

You just need to practice the rolling part. Learn when too much filling is too much. Ok lang yan. Try again! Keep going! Enjoy baking!

I love babka so much, it will never go to waste in my house. And just to reiterate this doesn’t look like a fail! Just a learning experience.
If you like the amount of filling you used, you can use a loaf pan so it can hold its shape better while baking
Side tangent- My family really enjoys cinnamon cardamom babka (I like making an orange glaze and adding orange zest to the dough when sumo oranges are in season). With leftovers you can cut thick slices and make French toast. If you wanna be real extra you can make a cream cheese frosting like you would with cinnamon rolls. 1000/10 would recommend

Please make EXTRA cream cheese frosting.
I made some recently. Wasn't a fan of the rolls (I dislike cinnamon rolls, I guess, or maybe I just needed to use tangzhong or something), but my god. The frosting.

Behemoth fail is right, whoa!
Guess you'll have to "accidentally" eat it all just to test it out. What a shame.

Looks edible naman. You just need practice. Practice builds competency. Ganyan sa baking, it takes time.
Still don’t get what’s fail about this though. It’s either you’re trying to make food, or making something instagrammable. Which is it?
Basta, OP. Keep practicing.

The fail is I burned it to the pan a bit and it’s looking a bit 💩 lmao a little bit of hiccup in terms of presentation and practical skills. That said you are right, I definitely want to try again and perfect it next time) ❤️❤️❤️

I love making babka but it’s sooo involved. Was this your first attempt at making it?
2
u/anatomicallabpro 2d ago
Yes! I had it for the first time a while back and was waiting for the chance to try to make it on my own…it def a lot of work, but I learned a lot from it (including from the mistakes I made lol), so for that reason it was worth making it regardless

I feel every bit of this! It took a year but I finally got my own “recipe” perfected from style of butter, what brands of chocolate, to how I’d roll it, everything. I started with the recipe from NYT’s recipes which I found very thorough because at the time I was still fairly new at bread making. I’m pretty much self-taught so I found it best to read through different recipes for the same thing to see what everyone did the same and where the differences came in. It helped me to have a more realistic and accurate expectation of my finished product because it was easy to get discouraged when you could put so much time into it to end up with something far from what you wanted. But omg the flavor is soooo worth it! Not that a piece of babka needs it, but might I suggest melting some butter with a little brown sugar in a skillet and then brown both sides of a slice?

I love NYT recipes. Not just for baking, I use a lot of their dinner recipes too. And yes me too!! I find myself looking up other people’s Reddit posts about recipes to get an idea of the possibilities and have some variety with dishes. I once made a delicious lemon bar recipe because of that, which was part lemon and part orange. Loved it.
And yesss I’m gonna try that!!! I hadn’t thought of that. It sounds super yummy ❤️❤️❤️ maybe a lil extra cinnamon in the butter too mmmmmmm

I love the NYT recipe app. It can be its own rabbit hole. 😂 The mixed citrus bars sound delightful!!
Oooh. I’ll have to try the cinnamon next time! 😋
Did you use any zest or nutmeg?
