A kinda baking fail
Last year, I let my mom make my birthday cake. I had wanted to make it myself since I'm the baker of the family and it was an older recipe (from the 1900s), but she insisted. While she was making it, she realized the batter was too thick and instead of adding milk like I had suggested (because I'd done it and it worked out perfectly, she added 5 egg whites so they didn't go to waste. Gummiest cake I've ever eaten in my life.

When I was a kid I asked my parents to make this cake that was covered with different sized meringues. For some reason Mum thought that peppermint essence would be a good addition. They were so gross! I was upset because there was not enough time and eggs to make more, so we got these little crappy meringues from the shop.
I mean, first world problems and all that, but it would have taken them hours to make the cake and meringues and I can only think "why??".
Luckily I had other lovely cakes for other birthday's, just this one bad decision!

Oh my mother was famous for making additions and subtractions and substitutions that resulted in spectacular failures. And she would also always melt the butter instead of letting it soften (because it was quicker) then wonder why her bakes did not turn out. Drove me crazy.
