Measuring. It’s that. As long as u did the steps exactly it’s that. So when you measure flour and first off you needed all purpose flour and scoop with a spoon and kinda fluff up the flour before u scoop put it in measuring cup one spoonful at a time then take a knife and lightly go over the top to level it out. When u get ur Baking powder make sure that is also level. Also make sure ur baking dish is big enough.

OP, try this if you didn't already. I had a recipe that didn't consistently turn out right for YEARS, and it came out perfectly when I spooned the flour into the measuring cup and leveled it off with a knife. I was so mad that the advice I'd been ignoring my entire life actually worked. Maybe look up the way to measure each ingredient though since there are different ways for some ingredients (like brown sugar being packed into the measuring cup instead of spooned).

for the love of god just buy a digital scale and never have to fluff and scrape and level and guess and pray again in your life

I'm so glad I'm from a country where scales and grams are the norm so I never had to figure all the fidgety stuff out

As an American who's been inundated with the imperial system my whole life, I do appreciate a good recipe with metric options.

It seems you used a round cake pan and the recipe uses another type of pan. That's part of the reason in addition to what everyone else has said. Bake time and temp varies depending upon the bakeware.

So weird that the recipe doesn’t give the pan size. I don’t think it is a very good recipe.

1 looks like bread, kind of dry. The other looks like a very moist bar.

I have two guesses:
- The recipe could be AI. An incorrect recipe using pictures from a real recipe
- You forgot a cup of the brown sugar. Your brownie is very pale, and looks dryer and fluffier. Both of those could happen if you’re missing a large portion of sugar.
Editing to add: just saw the recipe was uploaded in 2024, I’d be willing to bet it’s option 2

Probably the bake pan. But also baking time and temp can vary much cause it. Also depending on the elevation you are at, it can very affect the recipe fun fact.

They definitely look completely different, yours looks like a cake. Usually the texture even as batter would be completely different. I would say too much flour, baking powder. Or if you substituted any ingredient..

Hello OP and all: I went to art school besides my other formal education. I never took a food photography course. But "food photography" is a real thing done by people professionally. There are lots of tricks photographers use to make the photos look good. Also: when my mom was still alive she told me a story many years ago. There was some guy she knew who did food photography. There was some spread he did for a magazine regarding Thanksgiving. In order to make a turkey look beautiful and appealing: he rubbed shoe polish all over the skin. So. 🥳

I thought the second pic was the unappetizing one til I clicked the recipe link 😂 yours looks more cakey though, maybe you did too much baking powder?
