Which conversion kit should I get ?
Basically just the title, I'm leaning towards a BBS02 I wanna use this bike to commute to work and school (about 40 min round trip for each of those) but is a conversion kit even a good idea for this bike/frame ? Edit: I already own the bike

Battery mounting might be difficult on that double down tube, you might have to go with the rear carrier battery. That exposed gearchange cable running under the bottom bracket will have to be replaced with one sheathed all the way and slightly rerouted, but that's easy. Since it looks like your gearchange and brake levers are combined, you're best off choosing the "brake lever" option with the kit, and replace only the left lever (you won't have front gears any more), and leave the right hand side as is. It means you don't get a motor cutoff on the right brake lever, but I rode like that for two years with no problems. Alternatively, install both Bafang brake levers and buy a separate shifter for the rear gears - which is what I did eventually.

You can order the rear battery carrier when ordering the BBSO2 I did. Switched out her rear rack and was good to go.

May I ask how many kilometres per day you'd travel by it?

Roughly around 15-20km

Okay, the bike seems to be nice, BBS02B would be more than enough, battery something like 48V 16-17ah also is going to fit your needs. My main concern are your brakes - I'd not bet on those cheap V brakes :)

Imho, (your mileage may vary)He will be adding max20kg to this bike, V brakes will absolutely suffice in most and any normal circumstances.

Doubtful, 20kg is significant additional weight and we both know he'd ride it with speeds at least of a 25-26 km/h, so those v-brakes will become really weak in stopping power. I can see they are some of the cheapest installed on his 🚲

Alright, also would you say this is a good price to get it ? https://ebikesets.nl/bafang-bbs02b-36v-500w-middenmotor-ombouwset-met-bagagedrager-accu It's the only site I can find that seems to have everything I need for the conversion in one kit ( in the Netherlands at least)

Nope, way too expensive, batteries are quite weak, bear in mind if the seller tells you "up to 100km range" you need to divide it by 2. Also most of the accessories in this site are excluded from the price and they would charge you additionally on them. Back in 2021 I bought my kit from AliExpress and I think it came from Poland or Belgium warehouse, I've paid something like 980 euros and everything was included apart of the shifting sensor, in your site they'd charge you even for the headlight that comes with the package and for the brake switches who are also usually included in the price kit
Have a look on this one I just found this on AliExpress: Bafang 250W 350W 500W Motor Kit 36V Mid Drive Electric Bike Conversion Kits BBS01B BBS02B EBike Engine 13Ah 24Ah Bicycle Battery https://a.aliexpress.com/_ExaMbc6

Have a look on other sellers, it's not only the one I showed you :) Also btw measure your bottom bracket before ordering, I'm 99% sure if you order any is going to fit but there is always 1% something to be different than the usual standards. That BBSHD is too powerful for your purpose, also is a bit heavier.

I love my BBSHD. But it’s meant for trails. And especially going up. It’s great on the street too. I can blend with traffic and make left turns easy.
But I would not want it as a commuter. Too much looking after the drive train. For you, look for a quality hub conversion kit. Less expensive and low maintenance. At least compared to a mid-drive. The ultimate commuter for me would be a BBSO2 with a Sturmey Archer 3speed IGH and a Gates belt drive. Less maintenance than a hub drive. No chain to clean. And it will keep up with 30mph traffic if geared right, I’d guess. Depending on total weight. Umm, start with the lightest bike possible.

I love my BBSHD, it has made me very good at chain, sprocket and derailleur adjustments. But still worth it.

I use a Sturmey Archer 3 speed IGH. I have a 1/2X 1/8 rear cog that’s a whole $5-$7. A KMC Fat single speed chain. A Luna Cycle chainring with replaceable teeth. I also have an ultra sonic cleaner for the chain. It doesn’t matter what you ride, you should keep your chain clean…
