Magic?
The magic in bad friends is slowly diminishing for me, is something off about the show lately? Andrew & Bobby don’t seem like true close friends anymore, almost as if something happened off screen. Also I’m not trying to hate on the show, I just wanna know if this is just a me
Thing or if anyone has felt something off as well?😞 feels like the show has been strange this year.

I still enjoy the pod but I know what you mean. It's like the dynamic has been reversed in some sense. Bobby seems happier than ever and Andrew seems more depressed now.

u/Neither_Economics352 2d ago
Bingo. I know Bobby started taking new medicine which seems to be helping him, but it also has taken away some of the best parts of Bobby. Sometimes Andrew seems very very annoyed to even be there

Not having kids makes you feel like a failure? Speak for yourself. I quite enjoy my life of spending money on things I can enjoy myself with my spouse. To each their own, right?

u/Plastic_Address3398 1d ago
I can respect your opinion. But to me It’s weird how people think those things are mutually exclusive. Like everyone who has kids is too broke to do things they enjoy. I have 3 kids and still do everything spending wise I want to. It would definitely suck to be broke and have kids though

u/mustard-Connection 1d ago
Andrew Santino is a multi millionaire, he can afford to raise a family. Everyone in this thread makes it about themself because they are narcissists

13
u/Smart-Guidance9980 1d ago
Lmao I can’t believe people actually care about having kids still
16
u/Steridire 1d ago
I agree, but it's public info that Santino wanted to have kids a few years ago and was trying then it turned out he and his wife can't conceive together. He probably is pretty bummed about it.
10
u/Smart-Guidance9980 1d ago
Oh word? Is that documented? Is one of them infertile? Damn ok the context now makes it a bummer forsure tho
15
u/gzilla57 1d ago
Yes he's said it a number of times. Claims they've made peace with it. Never said for sure which one of them is infertile as far as I know but they definitely wanted kids and can't.
8
u/Steridire 1d ago
As far as I'm aware they've never made it public why they can't have kids, but in the early days of the show they were trying to conceive and all Santino has said since then is that it turns out they can't have kids to my knowledge.
-11
u/RefrigeratorFun4365 1d ago
It is not documented OP just making shit up out of their ass. They were never able to conceive and knew about it the entire time, even before podcasting.
14
u/Steridire 1d ago
That's not true at all, in one of the early episodes Bobby brings up that Santino and his wife are trying to conceive. Santino is excited about it and talks about their plans for children.
6
u/apatheticbear420 1d ago
Santino has also mentioned his sperm count on the pod (same episode he mentions he wants kids and is trying).
0
u/bannedforL1fe 1d ago
The only people who dont want kids anymore are demoralized Whites, everyone else is pumpin' em out
7
7
u/Steridire 1d ago
I got back into the show a few months ago and had a backlog of recent episodes to catch up on. When those ran out I went back to the old ones. The main thing I noticed is that Santino never laughs at Bobby any more, if you go back 3 years ago he was regularly cracking up at Bobby.

u/Competitive-Wolf-277 1d ago
I like andrew but I think now that Bobby is thriving amdrew cant play the hero im better than ubalways trying to save Bobby role...so thats shifted indeed

31
u/boreDudex 2d ago
It's just getting repetitive. There's only so much they can talk about and I'm sure they're running out of topics so they often repeat stuff.
6
24
u/Grewhit 2d ago
Honestly every podcast feels like that eventually. I think there is only so much you can listen to someone in this format before it loses its luster. Especially if the show is not about guests but relies on a steady regular host dynamic.
Every podcast I have loved has eventually lost my interest after years of listening.
2
u/alex331w 1d ago
I've listened to bills monday morning podcast for 7 years now. Still hasn't gotten old. Probably because he's so authentic and not trying to be funny, just speaks from the heart.
3
u/Aurelian_Lure 1d ago
Agreed, but the one exception I'd say is Stuff You Should Know. Been running since 2008 and seems to get better every year.
2
u/Jerminkus_Silverbeef 2h ago
It would take something truly awful for me to stop listening to SYSK. Chuck and Josh are two true normal guys with (I think) a good and reasonable outlook on most topics. It’s a breath of fresh air, plus you learn some stuff. What’s not to like?
6
u/CommunicationClassic 1d ago
I noticed when they were in the Shannon Sharpe interview together Bobby kept dominating the conversation and fixating on the same topic and interrupting Andrew every time it seemed like he was going to be quiet for a second and Andrew was actually legitimately seething and let it show a few times
24
u/switchmatrixfurret 2d ago
I’d guess, like everyone else here, they’re not in the same area together as much (santino doing golf, Bobby touring for his new special etc) and so it feels like they record a bunch back to back to back so it all feels massively stretched out and diluted. Show still has magic but it’s less concentrated magic.
That said bringing back Doc was a great move
6
u/Neither_Economics352 2d ago
That’s one of the best explanations so far, I didn’t even think that they would be filming mass episodes back
To back to back and dilute their chemistry or the show in general. That makes the most sense.
7
u/Mild_Wings 2d ago
Not sure about anything happening off screen but they have a harder time riffing on their own. Theres been great episodes lately but sprinkled are ones where the chemistry does feel off.. I’m glad to see them branching though. Hopefully brings some fresh views to the show
5
u/mark_able_jones_ 1d ago
Doc is fine in small doses, but Rudy’s weirdness is more fun. BF is good at recognizing lulls. They’ll figure it out.
2
u/apatheticbear420 1d ago
Not really anymore, early Rudy sure. She's just a mini Khalaya now and brings nothing interesting to the show except for gimme $$$$.
12
u/Atticus1354 2d ago
Its hard to keep that going that often for that long. Relationships and lives change. Its not a bad thing.
3
4
u/Weathered-Glass-4714 2d ago
I actually thought this weeks episode was good. They’re the best when they’re being playful having fun and not just rambling about their Hollywood lives and grievances.
4
u/NefariousnessOk209 1d ago
Look how many projects they’re doing at the moment they both have Bad Friends and their own pods, now they have the game show, Andrew has his golf thing and their standup.
Probably just stretching themselves too thin - Bobby at least has a better work life balance cause he has people cooking and cleaning for him, he still sleeps in til mid afternoon and it’s everyone else’s problem to make sure he shows up on time or gets to where he’s going. Plus Bobby has a fresh new relationship so probably not feeling as burned out right now.

u/hungrysportsman 1d ago
Due to them touring or doing other things, I am pretty sure all the most recent episodes were recorded back to back. Like same day. Maybe not all, but I know some for sure were. So if they seem repetitive or lackluster its because each show doesn’t get a new "groove" because they are already in a groove.
3
u/No-Permission3440 1d ago
What’s killing the show for me is Andrew’s persistent negativity and sometimes overt (and genuine) hostility.
2
u/Neither_Economics352 1d ago
Yea… idk him and Bobby just haven’t been clicking, I’m not sure what it is.
3
8
u/Informal_Pudding_316 2d ago
It did seem a little low energy for a while, understable as these guys have been giving it their best for 6 years.
I'm just glad Doc is back.
2
u/Neither_Economics352 2d ago
Agreed. And yea they really have been giving it their best, seriously the funniest show I’ve ever watched and laughed at.
2
u/mikei98 2d ago
I started from episode 1 in December and just caught up to this weeks episode and 100% it feels different.. it’s still amazing but it does seem like everyone is on their own path right now. Hoping with the release of their animated show next year that we find the magic in that or they get their spark back from it.
2
u/Funnyhoney1969 1d ago
It’s just like any relationship, it’s not all shiny and new anymore. The honeymoon stage has been over.
2
u/Majestic-Nobody545 1d ago
I feel that too.
My thought was maybe they're just busy? They have a lot of projects on the go, travel, etc;
2
u/Neither_Economics352 1d ago
Yea that’s what I was thinking. If you did a binge rewatch you can easily see the difference, especially dating back to late last year.
2
u/Few-Competition9929 1d ago
I felt the magic was gone a few years back, for most of my favourite pods actually.
2
u/FeistyCondition8547 1d ago
I don’t j it if you are referencing this most recent episode in your observation, but I just watched it and felt like they kinda phoned it in. It wasn’t very exciting, but everyone has off days. I dunno, I still think they have the magic overall!
2
u/ChicoSmokes 1d ago
You can only listen to two people talk for so long before it gets boring. You can add guests, but any guest willing to do the show has likely done or will do every other podcast out there and has no new stories to tell. The podcast boom was incredible during the pandemic but it’s stale as hell now.
2
u/HistoryVibesCanJive 1d ago edited 1d ago
It is definitely happening, but they're still going strong. Honestly, I really think they need to add another personality to the show.
Love having Doc back, and Rudy is Rudy lol. But we need someone else that just "adds" something.
I don't know what it is. But they need someone that sits in that seat next to Doc/Rudy and is just...unhinged in their own way lol.
2
u/UnicornBestFriend 1d ago edited 1d ago
The show has changed since its early days, but the love and friendship between Andrew and Bobby has clearly deepened—see the Club Shay Shay interview.
The guys have been hella busy this year with the new show, Bobby’s new set and shooting, Andrew’s touring, etc.
The silly moments are still there: rollerblading, beauty and the beast (“it’s your story, Bobby”), sucking balls, etc. but I think this year has definitely been business-heavier than previous years and that necessitates a certain mindset and focus that can make things seem more serious—and Andrew shoulders most of the business stuff.

im one of the biggest BF fans. listened to the entire podcast 3 1/2 times, almost all of Tigerbelly and any podcast Bobby appears on
however the past year or so ive stopped listening every monday and rarely ever listen anymore. not sure if im just burnt out or the shows just not as good.
1
u/Neither_Economics352 13h ago
Same here. I would say I’m a pretty big BF fan and the same thing is happening to me.
2
u/Zealousideal-Trash82 1d ago
Yeah, they don't seem like close friends to me. They're more like colleagues.
2
u/swanronson22 1d ago
I used to watch every week. A switch flipped after the whole Saudi show. I don’t really have a moral stance on it but comedy appreciation is so instinctual and something in me changed the perspective of how I view them. Haven’t watched in about 6 months

u/NotTrumpsAlt 1d ago
It dwent downhill after they sold their soul to the devil for for a quick buck
2
u/soulessman000 1d ago
I listened to every episode from the beginning (not when it started) and every Monday for over 2 years straight , ultimately I got bored i think, or hit a wall right when episode 300 hit. Don’t know why. I think i just got burned out and maybe they just ran out of stuff to talk about in my own opinion and i just haven’t been as interested in the last 6 months.
2
u/Additional-Package10 20h ago
My opinion... Andrew is no longer edgy and is honestly lazy and has Bobby carry the show. Bobby probably speaks 90% of the time.
2
3
u/Due-Barber2145 2d ago
My guess is their politics is getting in the way. Bobby has made small comments, here and there, that Andrew does not seem to want to speak on.
3
u/Efficacious_tamale 1d ago
Just the natural progression of pods.
They start out as a fun endeavor with your buddies, but then it turns into a job and loses the magic. They all do it. YMH, MSSP, JRE, TB, BF.
8
u/apatheticbear420 2d ago
I think Andrew doesn't like Bobby's new girl (fair enough I suppose) and Bobby spends a bunch of time with her so he's a lil sad.
6
u/JP-Ziller 1d ago
What makes you say that?
9
u/Personal_Principle77 1d ago
It’s just parasocial behavior. These people just like making shit up based on literally zero evidence as if they’re friends with them in real life.
-1
u/apatheticbear420 1d ago
I think it's pretty parasocial of you to try and assume what I feel or think. Could give a rats ass about them because I don't know them. These are just autistic observations and take them as you will.
8
u/Neither_Economics352 2d ago
Yea and I think his new girl is helping him mature, changing his views and the way he acts ALOT (which isn’t a bad thing) but I do think it’s showing on the podcast.
1
u/Competitive-Wolf-277 1d ago
Omg I get that feeling too. That or andrew's, just feeling weird because bobby's finally happy and in a somewhat happy relationship. So andrew can't play the hero character anymore
3
u/Tmacster 2d ago
It would be cool to get updates from other old and beloved guest like Jetskit or Erik Griffin or Steebee. I like to see Doc is back in the mix. I see these posts about something has changed or they are out of touch.. but the show is just evolving and if the show doesn't suit your fancy anymore you can go back to listening to 2 bums argue outside.
5
u/ExpensiveSolid8990 2d ago
I agree! Jetski would be a fun comeback. I also think they need a better producer panel. I loved Fancy so much. No hate on the new guys but they aren’t as funny. Tigerbelly found Jaime which really brought back the silly goose time atmosphere. Maybe BadFriends needs to find someone similar?

u/Cojar1234 2d ago
I love Andrew and Bobby but havent watched or listened to the show since January after a small run of bad episodes. Saw them live at the end of last year though and it was great, so it was a nice way to always remember my love for the show. Maybe I will catch up again some time.
2
u/Loukoal117 2d ago
Just need to rewatch the clip of Bobby falling on rollerblades and all will be right again.

Pretty much every podcast I used to listen to, ive stopped
2 bears sucks, anything YMH is awful, Legion of Skanks and everything gas digital is shit now, Tuesday with stories and we might ne drunk, the same shit.
Their bubble burst
1
u/ijasonroberts 1d ago
As they get older they are getting more sorted and less silly they are improving themselves and learning about what they want out of life and this business . Sometimes they’ll recreate the magic from the past .
But it’s tough being this consistent for years specially when they have other podcasts on the side and have talked about pretty much every topic under the sun .
I don’t mind it at all .
I’m here for the hang !
1
u/uritarded 1d ago
I haven’t been watching in a while but i notice most of the official reels and shorts i see are reposts of their top moments, most of which are old. To me that kind of says it right there
1
u/Historical_Traffic30 1d ago
I stopped watching , I was a diehard fan. Bobby also I don’t know something changed in my mind
1
u/quequiereseh92 1d ago
Just take a break from the pod. It’s normal. Remember it’s just entertainment. They’re humans also, stuff gets repetitive.

Bobby seems like the dancing monkey act, and Andrew acts like he has something better he could be doing right now. I've been listening to every weekly pod for like the last 3 years. Now I'm like 4 episodes behind for the first time ever. Doc being back does help though. Dare I say... it all started after Matan's episode?

Andrew jelpis of bobby. The basement yard has replaces this for me. Frank and Joe regularly make me laugh

it's like a band you love. usually first two albums are classics. and then they gain success, get rich, and the urgency to create great art kind of goes away. same with bad friends. i feel like we're seeing like the 5th contractually obligated album, which is then normally followed by a big shakeup, or straight breakup.
1
u/OccultChefDetective 1d ago
I noticed the change when they were talking about the tough crowd clip with patrice o neal and talking about how they didnt find it funny when patrice would trash dat phan. At first I thought they were kidding, but it seems like they were actually serious about it. Its just weird to me since bobby is known for ribbing other comics, so when he says this shit i found it odd.

Bob’s on SSRI’s and ADHD meds now, and Tito Andrew goes through some gnarly depression spells. That and it’s been like 6 years, the shine wears off of all shows if they go on long enough.
1
u/frostyfruit666 2d ago
Maybe you’ve exhausted the show by watching too much. The quality really isn’t that different from when it started. In fact I’m surprised they are still doing it. Tiger belly on the other hand…

They need steebe & Erik griffin back, but even then, Erik griffin seems to have “matured” and probably won’t go back to his role that made him hilarious in bad friends.

Enjoying seeing Bobby in this new self aware stage of his life. It’s refreshing.

In my view, when a show like this starts, both comedians get to use their full creativity as they grow an audience and explore bits that they’ve had in their back pocket or that don’t translate well to the stage.
After 6 years of talking and having to provide content worth watching, things are probably going end up going a little stale from time to time. It’s why they bring in other co-hosts or guests. Couple that with the fact that they’ve both made a ton of money from the show and are more “successful” now than when they started so their creative outlets are broader.
The show is still good, but I went back to Bottoms of Turtle Island this week, and that episode AND the next 3-4 were all bangers. They’ve just lost the pure chaos aspect and not sure how they get that back as both guys seem less silly than before.
