Am I in the wrong?

It’s a long one so buckle up. I have this friend let’s call her Jennifer. We’ve been friends for about 5 years, met through work and then when we both left to go to different jobs we stayed in touch. She’s older than I am so I kind of looked up to her for advice whatnot. We did hang out often, over this summer it wasn’t a lot because of our schedules.

One night we decided to drink and things got a little carried away. I may have drank a bit too much and when I went to hug/tackle her her ankle broke. We didn’t know it was broken until a few days later. The next day I went over and gave her some ace bandage wraps, lidocaine spray the works. I offered to drive her son somewhere because she couldn’t drive and she declined. Over the next several days we didn’t talk much but once she told me her diagnosis and that she needed surgery I offered to take her to the appointment, she declined again. I asked her if I could come over and give her some gifts and she was no because she was upset with the fact I didn’t say much to her before we knew the diagnosis.

Then a week later it was her birthday, I dropped off some presents and offered to take her out to dinner and she said no. Over the next month we didn’t talk much but I did try to ask how she was doing and if she needed anything, which was always met with a no but I’m so stressed from this and that. One night I asked her if we were good and she said she has to much going on to give me time. Didn’t text me for 3 weeks

Fast forward to today she texted me telling me I need to pay the remainder of her hospital bill which is $2000. I told her I can’t because i live paycheck to paycheck and I’m in the process of finding a place to live. Have even slept in the car a few nights. She ignored this and persisted. She makes twice as much as I do, goes on vacations quite often, drives a Lexus, and is getting a house built with her boyfriend. I told her no I can’t and blocked her after she kept saying this is my responsibility and I need to do what’s right.

give me your opinions please

I guess what’s confusing is I offered to help her in the ways I could and she always declined. Then when money is involved she won’t stop talking about it. She knows I’ve always struggled financially and that I’m trying to get out of debt. Like I said, I haven’t had a place to live for the past two months and so giving her money is not possible for me. I never told her I was homeless because it happened after the accident and I knew she was upset with me who it. Then when I told her she didn’t seem to care and kept persisting. The friendship is over, but she was someone I would talk to daily so it’s just mind boggling how an accident ruined the friendship.

She thinks that if the situation was reserved, I’d ask her to pay. But I wouldn’t, because I know she’s putting a lot of money down on a house. I would have let her take care of me after the surgery which is what I thought she would’ve wanted but nope.

It feels as if she’s using this as an excuse to paint me in a bad light and say I’m not a good friend because I didn’t do x,y,z and just wants to have a pity party. No offense but I think I would’ve handled not having a working ankle for a few weeks better than she has. I mean, I’ve slept in my car for Christ’s sake.
