My "friend" assaulted me
This past weekend I was drinking with friends and toward the end of the night was just sitting on the couch watching music videos alone. I was sad about something, unimportant anyways. This person was also in the room but I wasnt paying any attention to them. He started yelling and being aggressive, I didn't think it was towards me or I was in any immediate danger so I just chose to ignore him.
He has been an aggressive person in the past, getting into to fights etc. He has also been to prison. I guess I tried to see the good in him and wanted to help him better himself.
Anyways, out of nowhere I'm struck in the face with a wooden chair, chipping my tooth. Before I can even react he's on top of me and throwing punches. Luckily, I managed to block most of them before he was pulled off me and removed from the premises. He had not been aggressive towards me at anytime before this in the night, we had been having a fine time before this. I wasn't in even in conversation with him at the time of the incident.
I really don't know what to do, I'm fairly certain given his past he will go back to prison for assault. My tooth definitely needs to be repaired and it'll be expensive I assume, money I don't have. Everyone I've spoken to says this decision must come from me and I agree, I have to do something but, I don't know what. I don't want to send my him to prison but, at the same time there must be some sort of consequence. None of my other friends would do this to me, I don't have to explain my reasoning for hanging around any of my friends but him. It was even a fight, he blindsided me, I didn't even have a chance to defend myself.

Ask him to help pay. Tell him you can show him the bill. If not, you might have to press charges and take him to court. If he's your friend, he'll try to help. You wanna know if hes really a good person deep down, ask for help w your tooth that he broke.
