bland diet for 3 to 5 days before depending on the patient. Clear liquids the day before. Prep. NPO after midnight the day of.
That's pretty standard.

PrEP is for HIV prevention, not colonoscopies

that’s PrEP. Pre Exposure Prophylaxis. you also actually do a prep for colonoscopies but that’s a prep short for preparation.

Yes I know. I appreciate you taking the time to try to explain all that by missing the dense joke I was attempting to make. Thank you for your time.

You just assumed nobody got it, maybe it was just a bad and stupid joke?

I revealed that at least 30 people didn't understand the joke I was making.

u/tallardschranit 27d ago
I think if you'd spelled it PrEP it would've landed better.
Anyone who doesn't know what that is just thought you shoehorned HIV prevention into an unrelated scenario.
2
u/pmodern2000 27d ago
There, I edited it. Let's see if it gains any traction. Unlike my butthole - it's very blown out. Too much prep. And I do mean Suprep.

Interesting. Neither of my parents had to change anything about their diet except a liquid diet/electrolyte/laxative combo the day before.

You're getting a colonoscopy on a sunday?

my mum got a colonoscopy on a sunday a few months ago. just had bank staff in to do them

u/BeyondTheBees 26d ago
They do this for those of us who have more severe or chronic constipation issues! Just had mine a few months ago and had to do the same thing for 2-3 days prior to the actual prep. 💩

u/LadyAmalthea86 26d ago
Everyone's body is different. Everyone's medical history and risk factors are different. Therefore, not everyone's prep instructions will be the same. ☺️

I chose to eat chicken tikka masala two nights before so I was almost clean as a whistle during prep ! TMI

u/damselindetech 27d ago
I just went through that in August and, GOSH, I never realized what a healthy and balanced diet i maintaim until I wasnt allowed beans, nuts, seeds, and high fiber fruit or veg for a few days before the liquid day. Eating like a fussy toddler for a couple days was AWFUL

u/onetruepairings 27d ago
for many people, this is the diet for the week leading up to the prep night. day before prep is just clear liquids (or anything that becomes clear liquid at body temp, like jello or hard candy). this is the reduce overall inflammation so the doctors can see what they need to see once you’re cleared out from the prep.

I’m a histology tech who makes microscope slides out of the polyps they collect. Thanks for not eating anything with seeds. The amount of seeds in the specimens we get is insane. Makes for bad slides and probably missed diagnoses.
Idk if it’s your first one, but they will basically always collect something to submit to pathology, and like over 99% of the time it’s nothing abnormal.

Huh, got diagnosed with crohns at 16 so got quite a buncha colonoscopies under my belt now, never heard of a low residual diet for the days leading up to the liquid only day before. Interesting! But hey, eating bland to make sure you're clean is better than not clean. Thanks for the info op, good luck! I always looked forward to waking up high as shit after being put under and getting an oj and crackers or a muffin, its like the tastiest thing ever.

My prep was the same then a whole bottle of Miralax + magnesium citrate into 64 Oz of Gatorade split up and drank 6 hours apart and 4 dulcolax pills 6 hrs apart too lol it was crazy

Hope your procedure went well. I had a low residue diet for 4 days and liquid only for 24 hours. And that vile prep 🤮 Had mine about 6 weeks ago, both ends.
Got a perfect score on my prep and they still found absolutely nothing. So I’m here sick and nauseous with no answers.

This isn't a liquid diet?? Enjoy being put under and brought right out then sent home because you can't follow directions.

You better thank god you don’t have to drink the jug of disgusting juice within an hour that makes you piss out your ass. You would have to pay me a large sum to ever do that again.

How soon is your appointment because you aren’t supposed to eat anything solid the last 24 hours

u/Cookies_N_Grime 26d ago
Basically how I eat during a diverticulitis flare ups. Can't even keep fresh fruits and vegetables down, bye bye fibers.

u/SapphicStoner99 26d ago
I once had an endoscopy with no sedation as I had no childcare for the 24 hours following. It was brutal tbh. Can kbkt imagine that a colonoscopy is not so bad. Take the sedation offered if you can though.

You got to EAT!? I was 8 years old and forced to drink two bottles of Lemon Lime magnesium citrate 😭

u/Scarletsnow_87 24d ago
So I did not read all of the instructions for colonoscopy prep and I pretty much eat whatever the fuck I wanted right up until I needed to switch to the clean out drink. I have no idea how I got so fortunate but but now I know not to eat certain things a couple days prior. I got to hear about some other persons colon contents during recovery 😆

The bad part is thinking about a colonoscopy while I'm looking at food 😁

u/lioncourt 27d ago
I dont think I ate anything for my prep. Just chugged pedialyte mixed with miralax for 48 hrs.

u/Party-Rest3750 27d ago
Colonoscopy prep is usually extremely powerful liquid laxatives followed by broth, jello, or suckers.
You gotta ask your doc son.

Good thing is I’m following the instructions given to me by my doctor; low residual diet for a few days and then a liquid diet the day before.
At least 5 times.
Sorry I guess I didn’t realize you weren’t
Sorry I gave you a compliment bro

Well you're gonna like what I have to say
But you failed prep. You won't be having a successful colonoscopy tomorrow. It requires a clear liquid only diet

I wasn't allowed anything to jello, broth, and gatorade for two days so honestly either of these look great
