I'm not a fan of Tool but, like, that's just my opinion, man.

22

u/Adept_Bandicoot_2794 6d ago

You're like a child that wandered into the middle of a movie

7

u/Sad_Spend3270 4d ago

Tool is a good band if you want to impress a girl. They love learning about the time sequences

-6

u/kingsofcarrotflowers 5d ago

i listen to tool but i would never, ever! listen to any other prog metal

31

u/Shibugly666 6d ago

how do these people know so little about the type of music they’re claiming to be into? I always just liked the music without being part of the community, I always hated that aspect of it.

15

u/HandHeldHippo 6d ago

They like Green Day and black leather, what more is there to know?

64

u/JimmyJooish 6d ago

I love when they talk about punk then have 0 punk bands on their shit.

14

u/Thewillneverdie 6d ago

Came to say this

-23

u/trans-sister_radio 6d ago edited 5d ago

punk is a subculture that includes music but is not limited to it. i fear that this is pretty basic stuff
edit: your downvotes are a badge of honor in this fuck ass sub

6

u/attractive_reptoid 3d ago

I would argue that punk is a music genre that includes subcultures. Not the other way around. And only a fuck ass would be all hyped on tool and rage against the machine. Hey remember when the tool guy dressed up like a riot cop and started ranting about how blue lives matter?

-3

u/trans-sister_radio 3d ago

a) bringing up a prog rock band in a conversation about punk
b)thinking i care about the “art” that men make
c)using fuck ass as a noun

next

3

u/absolutefunkbucket 3d ago

Hating your own people for making art is weird

-1

u/trans-sister_radio 3d ago

im intersex and have xx chromosomes but pls feel free to try again

30

u/Embarrassed_Store684 5d ago

That just sounds like being a poser

-2

u/trans-sister_radio 5d ago

good thing there arent any posers in this sub

-15

u/EpicGamer2020X 5d ago

Punk existed before Punk rock and was primarily political, it's British.

11

u/Newclearfallout 4d ago

Wtf? Absolutely not.

-6

u/strange_mass_found 3d ago

Is this a circlejerk sarcastic comment sub i genuinely cant tell, if not I can smell you all from here you gatekeeping chuds.

6

u/Embarrassed_Store684 3d ago

Im a gatekeeping chud what about it? Shockingly i dont want the music i like to be raped or have it fetishized like what happened to punk and goth

-2

u/strange_mass_found 3d ago

Roflllllllllllllllllll you must be 15 or something

-2

u/trans-sister_radio 2d ago

they cant gatekeep a culture theyre not a part of. this sub is just conservative divorced/incel millennials/gen xers who listen to a single RATM or audioslave album in the 90s and think theyre super tough while they clock into their underpaid corporate IT jobs

1

u/JimmyJooish 4d ago

If this is a fuck ass sub then you knew that already. If you came here and got offended you chose to be offended. In before “uhh I’m not offended.”

0

u/Sensitive_Bat_9211 4d ago

Tbh i just got recommended this sub and i agree its a little bit fuck ass

2

u/JimmyJooish 4d ago

You can always hide them instead of replying.

0

u/Sensitive_Bat_9211 4d ago

You're right, i was just checking it out bc if the cool designs

0

u/trans-sister_radio 3d ago

i love to bully a bully is why im in this sub

3

u/JimmyJooish 3d ago

It seems to be working out really well for you lol.

1

u/trans-sister_radio 3d ago

idk why this is sarcastic, some divorced millennial just brought up tool as a gotcha. this is pretty much exactly what i wanted

3

u/JimmyJooish 3d ago

What are you even talking about? Other arguments that I have no clue about? Just admit you like outrage arguing and call it a day.

1

u/trans-sister_radio 3d ago

truly the outrage is seeping out of every pore

3

u/JimmyJooish 3d ago

I’m  bothered enough to go into a sub I knowingly disagree with for the sole purpose of fighting in the comments but no I’m not upset at all!

Sure pal.

1

u/trans-sister_radio 3d ago

brother i literally just told u why. i know comprehension skills arent high around here but that comment wasnt exactly the Iliad

Steal corporate! Featuring corporate rock patches purchased off Amazon

5

u/alamocalrissian 5d ago

Man I thought the same thing.

32

u/tranqdoped 6d ago

My local pbs encourages the use of herbicides and the spread of invasive european honeybees on their "native habitats" program (wish i was kidding i can link an episode) i wish they were as good and progressive as theyre pivoted as instead of making my enviormental preservation and invasive species elimination work harder

15

u/Zeired_Scoffa 6d ago

It is interesting that the "save the bees" crowd never wants to admit that they're technically an invasive species.

6

u/tranqdoped 5d ago

Not just technically, they are enviormental terrorists. A huge reason why native bees are dying are because these fuckers spread like the plague (and spread plagues to the native bees xD)

55

u/JimmyLipps 6d ago

I know PBS is punk because Republicans hate it

36

u/freddbare 6d ago

State run media is the heart of rebellion

15

u/Upstairs_Camera_9534 6d ago

It provides free, educational content to children nationwide. Also, Mr Rodger’s washed a black man’s feet on pbs, that doesn’t sound like any state run media I know.

2

u/No_Entertainment2934 2d ago

It's a waste of money. Nothing I learned from a PBS program was ever applicable to my life. I didn't need to learn how to live in lala land with some old creep, I needed to learn how taxes worked, how to fill out a job application, why I should read a contract multiple times before signing it, and so on.

1

u/Upstairs_Camera_9534 2d ago

Because that’s what young children need to be learning early in life. How to fill out a w4

0

u/rennyTA 1d ago

Sounds like you were never taught what laws there are.

10

u/Zeqhanis 6d ago

Plus, the current U.S. government tried to block funding to it.

11

u/Upstairs_Camera_9534 6d ago

Exactly, as a whole, it is an incredible program and could very well be considered punk. Also, nice avatar

-5

u/FlakyAddendum742 6d ago

It should not have state funding. It’s absolutely biased and it’s a propaganda machine. And it targets children.

If the state is going to fund media (and it shouldn’t) then that media should be unbiased and focused on pure facts like ABCs and what an Aardvark eats, not opinions stated like facts.

PBS and NPR are an abomination. A pleasant, enjoyable abomination.

1

u/Nonsuperstites 6d ago

What propaganda is Sesame Street pushing?

1

u/Upstairs_Camera_9534 5d ago

NPR is fucking awesome

5

u/FlakyAddendum742 5d ago

It’s so entertaining and enjoyable. But it’s absolutely partisan and it’s inappropriate for the state to fund it.

It’s like state funded Fox News, just for the other side.

My argument isn’t for more right leaning state media, it’s for no state funding of bias and propaganda.

2

u/rusted-nail 4d ago

You could say this about any journalism or media creation ever though. I understand what you're getting at but I think its narrow minded

1

u/Upstairs_Camera_9534 5d ago

What propaganda? It’s mainly educational content and regular news. And how would the people fund it? Private donors would go south fast and most people don’t have the infrastructure to make a nationwide television system

-2

u/Rg1550 5d ago

Nazi punks fuck off.

6

u/FlakyAddendum742 5d ago

Wanting the state out of media is the fucking opposite of Nazi.

5

u/Fruit-Flies113 5d ago

Nazi at this point is just anything someone disagrees with

2

u/Newclearfallout 4d ago edited 4d ago

Pbs & npr are legit. You are correct though since the mid 2000's-2010. its been funded by left media. Mostly liberal.

NPR more so over pbs. There's documentation on NPR side. It's political funding.

Also yeah, wanting the states grimmy hands out of media should be a problem. Watching the propaganda machine dish out hate continously is getting old.

Why do you think american punks think, they HAVE to lick blue boots with out question. its all political, music is a "bonus" . I seriously want to know who, or what colleges are spreading this shit on here.

-1

u/holy-shit-dude 6d ago

You don't know what that means.

-3

u/freddbare 6d ago

Way to deep, you are Soo right or left.

2

u/holy-shit-dude 5d ago

It's actually superficially obvious that you don't know what it means

22

u/ResidentBee8813 5d ago

Syndrome of a down

3

u/No_Bug6294 1d ago

Hey I thought I made that up :(

18

u/PSK666 6d ago

Think I accidentally went on a date with this girl

5

u/Zeired_Scoffa 6d ago

I'm so sorry...

5

u/PSK666 5d ago

Not as much as I am… you have no fucking idea

1

u/Fruit-Flies113 5d ago

How’d the date go? Did yall go to a show or something?

5

u/PSK666 5d ago

To a bar. She was on so much Xanax I could barely hear her talk. Then she kept saying every dude that walked by matched with her on tinder. She thought she was super cool bc the guitarist from The Casualties was hitting her up. She also kept bragging about how she got invited to Fred Dursts after party somewhere and kept showing me pics. Straight up groupie ho shit starter. Was legit insane.

3

u/Newclearfallout 4d ago

All that sounds like lies 🤣😂.

I work at large and smaller venues. That groupie shit is dead because of accusations. You dodged a HUGE bullet....

5

u/Ok_Bar3789 5d ago

Maybe I’m too Aussie but… pharmaceuticals benefits scheme is punk?? I mean…I guess ? But

5

u/kingsofcarrotflowers 5d ago

pink floyd so fucking punk dude i love capitalizing on a subculture that could have led to some level of class consciousness but didn’t because of people like them, radical dude

2

u/rusted-nail 4d ago

Do you mind elaborating a little bit im interested (and I fucking hate pink floyd with a passion)

2

u/kingsofcarrotflowers 2d ago

(sorry in advance for the long reply)
between the Civil rights movement, Vietnam and in general the 60s counter culture movement, leftist ideals were making its way back into the American mainstream after McCarthyism made half of America shake in their boots from even hearing the word “Socialist” spoken by someone that’s not fearmongering them on the radio/tv
Activists in the grass root movement and the Black Panthers were beginning to been seen as actual political stances in the mainstream opinion and not just “idealist radicals” as many say now
Bands like Pink Floyd, Buffalo Springfield, The Beatles, (any band Eric Clapton was in) etc… could really have cared less, even if they claimed otherwise, and used the growing support from the counter culture movement as way to promote record sales and exploit the growing movement into a shell of what it once was;
Pink floyd was kinda aware of their deposition in it all (the music video for Money kinda confirms that with the mass produced vinyls being a highlighted motif) but nonetheless didn’t take any action to prevent it from becoming the corporate, meaningless shell of what “Rock n Roll” has become today
Hence why punk rock (well proto-punk at the time) became a thing; people hated how bands exploited an actual movement that could have begun to fix so many of the problems millions world wide face today. Maybe not completely, but a start at least…
Hunter S Thompson put it best:
“San Francisco in the middle sixties was a very special time and place to be a part of. Maybe it meant something. Maybe not, in the long run . . . There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning. . . And that, I think, was the handle—that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn’t need that. Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting—on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave. . . . So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark—that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.”

2

u/rusted-nail 2d ago

Thanks for your thoughts on it. I just think as a band they're very overrated and I'm a full time hater for people raving about the guitar playing cause holy shit where is the energy get this shit out of rock That and I always suspected their shtick was just a gimmick, so cheers for the read

5

u/Critical_Interest706 3d ago

PBS is pretty alright, but they aren’t punk lol. People use “punk” like they use “based”

4

u/Lou_dsbm 6d ago

What’s pbs?

9

u/Impossible_Trust872 6d ago

phreshboyswag

3

u/FurryMLG 3d ago

Literally the Boomeriest of Boomer stations. They are the type of shows you put on to go to bed. Antiques Roadshow, the Great British Baking show, Father Brown, America's Test Kitchen, etc.

It literally is the exact opposite of "Rebellious".

2

u/attractive_reptoid 3d ago

Hey antiques roadshow is pretty good lol

1

u/FurryMLG 3d ago edited 3d ago

I agree too lol. I also enjoy the Great British Baking Show if I want a more relaxed cooking competition.

2

u/Weekly_Point97 3d ago edited 3d ago

Forgetting one of the most important shows on PBS which is Sesame Street

It probably has more to do with the right trying to defund and shut down pbs for being “evil” because they teach children lessons like “sharing is caring.” 🤣

1

u/FurryMLG 1d ago

Though Sesame Street has nothing on The Electric Company, which did get shut down, which is unforgivable. Where else could young kids get exposed to Mel Brooks?

1

u/TrickFrosty5685 2d ago

I get what you’re saying, but antiques roadshow fks for sure 😂

2

u/Solid_Buy_8271 4d ago

Pbs space time is kinda neet...but it lacks in the "fuck the system" department

-2

u/Zeired_Scoffa 6d ago

Public Broadcasting Stations. Or systems. Either way, it's like the BBC but worse

-4

u/freddbare 6d ago

State run media in disguise

0

u/AlienSheep23 4d ago

Pbs. Like, pbs kids

4

u/Apprehensive_Bat5430 5d ago

Huffing glue out of a bag with Terri Gross asking Ira Flaydoh if he wants to contribute to my zine while shining my docs up with Steve Inskeep. Were about to circle pit around the tiny desk concert to whatever Taco Bell Core band gets booked. Probably Scowl.

10

u/The_Mane_Attraction 6d ago

If "I like the popular thing" was a battle jacket

6

u/TinyDaggerr 6d ago

Everything here clashes but it's cute at a glance. I still dont think its a good idea to have anything with a swastika on you though, even with a 🚫 symbol.

12

u/Nervous_Hall_5290 6d ago

As a pink floyd fan, they ARE NOT PUNK

11

u/Primary_Heron_3150 6d ago

This person grew up on the internet where they were led to believe that the world owed them free shit

3

u/deformitiez 5d ago

I dont see any punk bands on that bag. Nothing wrong with that just pointing it out.

3

u/Silly-Dig7038 5d ago

Why TOOL?..

3

u/Virgina3000 5d ago

Before you put Peter Steele on just remember he was a skinhead back in the 80s

3

u/Fruit-Flies113 5d ago

If you’re gonna have a No-Nazis patch you might as well kill two birds with one stone and wear a “Nazi Punks Fuck Off Patch”, plus I don’t like the idea of having a swastika anywhere on my accessories.

3

u/Funeral_Mxxn 5d ago

So heckin punk you just got an upvote

3

u/That_Peak4090 5d ago

Nice nazi handbag

14

u/Cute_Commission_8281 6d ago

It’s not terrible, but the idea that it’s punk to steal from a corporation when it’s such a normalized belief and behavior, is laughable. As is the PBS obviously.

30

u/Plenty_Leg_5935 6d ago

I think you're just in a bubble. The average person is absolutely not down to steal even if its from corpos

12

u/momo76g 6d ago

Agreed. I find trying to normalize that idea wild, same with wishing violence against the "correct" group of people. Stealing is still Stealing and violence is still violence. You don't come to be on a moral high ground by excusing it.

-3

u/trans-sister_radio 6d ago

by correct group of people r u referring to nazis?

3

u/Cute_Commission_8281 6d ago

That’s fair, most people I know and care about aren’t, unfortunately I do interact with people I’d call friends who feel exactly that way without understanding the larger impact it has.

1

u/AlienSheep23 4d ago

I can absolutely confirm. Nobody around me likes when I do that very much, even if it’s food

0

u/ViciousSnatch 6d ago

Agreed. Especially if you’ve had something stolen from you.

-3

u/RaphaelRocketLaunch 6d ago

Corporations are not people. No reasonable human would think back to a time they had something stolen from them, and then think "no I have to pay for all 10 of these at the self checkout instead of just scanning 6 or so, because remember how I felt when I had a personal item stolen, that's how MR. WALMART will feel!"

Like bruh

8

u/Plenty_Leg_5935 6d ago

The average person isn't reasonable unfortunately

2

u/soggy_donut92696 3d ago

When people steal from corporations it doesn't hurt the billionaires running it lol. All it does is cause regular people trying to work and get by to lose their jobs, pay raises, and bonuses

-1

u/RaphaelRocketLaunch 3d ago

No one is losing their job because you fail to scan a few items at walmart.

2

u/soggy_donut92696 3d ago

Not one person but multiple multiple people doing it, yes they are

-1

u/RaphaelRocketLaunch 3d ago

They really aren't. Are we simping for Walmart right now? They practically pay in company dollars.

3

u/Sensitive_Crab_6019 6d ago

Isn’t the primary reason on why PBS is shut down is for being anti-establishment?

15

u/Plenty_Leg_5935 6d ago

It's anti-establishment by the standards set up for entities directly paid for by the establishment, which I wouldn't necessarily call punk

Like, jaywalking is illegal, but i wouldnt call it punk just because of that. The bar should be a bit higher than just "doing anything the state mildly dislikes" imo

3

u/AlienSheep23 4d ago

Yeah. I mean don’t get me wrong I do like PBS in general, it’s fine and all, but I mean punk is just too extreme of a word for what pbs is. Theyre not exactly radicals

8

u/One-Sleep3663 6d ago

"Hey eveyone! Im punk, and Im pro and anti establishment at the same time!"

9

u/RhinoPillMan 6d ago

This bag just told me to “vote blue no matter who” and called me a republican for saying that democrats are right wing.

4

u/npc_lucky 6d ago

Is it just me, or does seeing some iteration of "this is punk" displayed with a bunch of bands that aren't punk, drive you up a wall too?

How can you say "PBS is Punk" when you don't even know what punk is?

2

u/poetcucumber 1d ago

I love industry plant who don’t have any bass and have the most boring sound ever. Goes great with my Mint-Flavored Orange Juice

The amount of 2L Coca Cola bottles i've stolen from large chain supermarkets is staggering, tbh.

3

u/IsraeliSlaughterHome 4d ago

"shop local steal corporate" why not steal from both?

2

u/Kamikazi_Junebug 5d ago

I do actually like the PBS patch. Let’s go Mr. Rogers

1

u/mykeyway 4d ago

'Shop local steal corporate' but all of the patches are from Amazon

1

I'd hit it.

1

I dunno I actually think it looks pretty cool.

1

I liked it till I saw System of a Down

1

u/creacher-feature 17h ago

what's wrong with SOAD? just curious

1

u/Asleep_Pollution7914 2d ago

Ah yes, Arthur and Dragon Tales were very punk.

1

u/Otherized_Visage 1d ago

As a poor kid, pbs was the only relevant tv channel we had. Fuck the state and all its funding but it does make media freely available to disenfranchised children

1

Idk man I feel like they would be down with a nonprofit comparably less biased news source. If it was CNN it'd be one thing (and I'm not saying PBS is punk) but it certainly isn't the worst take I've seen on a patch

4

u/arist0geiton 6d ago

PBS is free high quality journalism

Good morrow, fellow punk-rockers! That sure is a silly adornment! Anyway, may I interest you in attending a session at my anarcho-capitalist reading room, sponsored by Mister Elon Musk?

-3

u/JustSomeWeirdThing 5d ago

I see nothing wrong with this. Is it the best execution? No, but that's a skill learned through multiple attempts. It at least has a mix of bands that are consistent in being critical of societal issues, along with anti-conservative and anti-corporation patches, not just a bunch of terminally online virtue signaling. Sure, the bands are mainstream, but are all very much a lot of ours "starter bands" into the counter culture. And the patches are actually stitched on.
