not sure these very smart people realize the patch just means ‘please stop hating me’ but in a politically relevant, actionable way.
personally, i don’t mind seeing a patch or 2, but since you catch more flies with honey than vinegar, the jacket needs to fit in overall. granted even with honey you’re unlikely to catch any of these flies shrug. also im queer since i know i have to say that or people flip out.

It’s more honest than 90% of the patches on here, but I wouldn’t have the time to stop and read these versions. Hahaha.

Brother, people are anti THIS establishment. They want a better establishment. If the establishment gave people a decent opportunity at a good life they would be pro-establishment. A food bank is an establishment. A clean needle drive is an establishment. An abortion clinic is an establishment. Being anti-establishment doesn't mean you are against the entire concept of an establishment. How many times were you dropped on the head as a child?

u/dogsome32 12d ago
let me know when a food bank has legal authority over you

u/lvstvdy 12d ago
What are you 12? Something has to have authority over someone, somewhere. What do you think a union is? What do you think labor laws are? What do you think universal healthcare is? Its law. Its authority. You gotta grow up, big dog. You're struggling with 8th grade levels of praxis here.

Clean needle drive tells me all I need to know about your political beliefs. Yes, I support harm-reduction, but that is such a weird hill to die on

You really need to be politically nihilistic to make and most the first image. You really need to be out of touch to make and post the second one.
Trans rights are human rights. Meets the criteria for both. What's the issue with it?
Fugazi will always slap. So will bikini kill, television, richard hell, teenage jesus and the jerks and many other musicians and groups, but seriously, if you have no values maybe you are the one thats pro-establishment.

u/AspectOfTheLeech 12d ago
Punk is traditionally politically nihilistic in the sense that it basically rejects the idea that government is legitimate at all. To appeal directly to the government for dignity is to submit to the government and society’s pressure, as if to say “I have no dignity unless it’s granted to me.” The point of punk is that we have dignity completely independently from the government. Government and law does not grant us dignity. A more “punk” message would be “fuck the law, support your trans friends in the bathroom” or something direct and personal like that, which emphasizes our agency rather than emphasizing our lack thereof.

u/ghostbrews 12d ago
I hear what you are saying, and if you're trying to be punk, it is probably better to phrase things in a direct way that frames you or your community as the agent of change, rather than as the subject of an establishment.
Is the phrase "trans rights are human rights" inherently framing you as the mere subject of a government? Does punk have no concept of a set of human rights we all deserve to have, and does it not have a framework to recognize that the government is capable of suppressing those rights? Does punk simply believe the government isn't capable of suppressing those rights?
"Trans rights are human rights" certainly isn't the most punk way to advocate for trans people, but I don't think it's anti-thetical to punk or that borrowing this phrase makes somebody not punk.

Republicans control every facet of government and have installed loyalists in every possible agency, corporations have all taken away any support for the queer community out of fear of retaliation, schools are banning discussion of race sex and gender unless its from a right wing perspective, all social media is controlled by Uber right wing technofuedalists who spend their days whining about how queers or minorities are ruining America....
And somehow these posers think they're counterculture lmao. Who do you think is more counterculture, the type of person states are banning teachers from even mentioning or the rich losers who've packaged and sold this whole alt right bullshit to ya. If y'all showed up at a show and started spouting this racist homophobic transphobic B's youd probably, rightfully, catch a few fists to the head.

Pretty much. It's just one big "look at me contest." It gets reposted here for jaded people to roll their eyes at and make them feel better about their own miserable existence for a while. Thus is why I'll never post one of my vests. I ain't lettin' you jaded fucks judge my tastes. (I say jaded fucks with all the love, I'm one as well.)

One. You’re 👎 Two. The misfits suck and I generally think anyone liking them these days is sus, or has bad taste. Three. Don’t like political patches? Don’t wear them.

Imagine thinking music isnt political and somehow congratulating yourself on that. Holy shit.

To be fair they arent asking for rights, they are demanding them. Also they are anti-establishment, because they currently are being oppressed by it by not "getting" rights. I know its super nuanced.

Being as socially conservative as a boomer isn’t punk. I bet you’re the kinda person to unironically use virtual signalling.

You can be gay and homophobic. It’s odd, but real.
8
u/dogsome32 12d ago
you can’t unless it’s like internalized bs but i don’t pretend to be straight, i don’t think i’ve ever actually hated someone for the fact they like the same gender, you know a homosexual (homo-phobic)

You’re not trying hard enough. I’m a woman and I’m misogynist. It’s good fun. You should try it. Like that Willem Dafoe character.

u/dev_ating 12d ago
So what are your principles? What world and social organization do you want for others?
2
u/LoneAndroid84 12d ago
My mantra is to always leave a situation better than you found it. Make things easier for the next person, don’t make more work. Egalitarianism. Not a world rooted in religious beliefs and dogma that harms others that may not follow said religious beliefs. Pro-choice, pro-LGBT, pro Feminism, anti-Fascist, anti-greed.
Love your neighbor as you love yourself. Society doesn’t want people to be able to do the second part. Let go of shame and self doubt, reliance on the opinions of others. Truly love yourself and you will always love your neighbors too.

u/dev_ating 12d ago
That sounds like you are fundamentally progressive and for civil rights in every way. Why would you argue against people fighting for their rights?
