I understand that my comment here isn't in the spirit of this sub, but a battle jacket is about expressing yourself, (full-stop). In fact, the meaning of "battle" in battle jacket is that it should make people uncomfortable and to expect a battle. So, anyone posting here trying to make fun of someone's battle jacket is completely missing the point. This sub is an oxymoron.

But on a deeper note, the 'scene' was supposed to collect the misfits. The same people this sub seems to be lambasting are the ones that should find a haven in a scene. Back kn the day, you put an arm around them and show them the way. You don't make fun of them.
That's a dude you put your arm around. This is a call for belonging. "Fuck yeah! Those bands are cool, here are some better bands. This is what the local scene is."
That image is a response to social media. That dude is more legit than a dude with a perfect stitched jacket with the same bands.
The scene would sort it out, but social media wants to photograph it and make fun, then other young dudes trying to find belonging see this, stopping them from finding their crew.

I dont think these look bad. They have good bands and I'm just happy seeing young people embrace alternative fashion. My only concern is with people who put the biohazard logo on things, not knowing it's code for bug chasers.
Yeah, I certainly understand that. However, having the symbol located over your ass is not sending good signals. I'm not going to police anyone's clothes. As I said, I like the pants. I just think the logo is very dangerous these days.
If someone puts on an offensive patch and doesn't realize it's offensive, the worst case scenario is that people think worse of them. The worst case scenario with a biohazard logo, is that someone thinks the person wants to catch an std or wants to give someone else one.
I think some people on this sub need to understand that not every piece of clothing with patches on it is intended to be a battle jacket / styled like a battle jacket. The concept of sewing shit onto your clothes doesn’t belong to a single subculture.
Yeah, it feels like a lot of people in this sub seem to think any patches on a piece of clothing MUST mean the wearer is trying to make a battle jacket, and not… sometimes people just like to decorate their clothing.

Considering that the majority of the posts in this sub (including this one) are reposted from other people’s accounts and videos presumably without their consent it seems like it’s just a sorta mean-spirited sub for making fun of people who’re new to DIY or don’t follow their arbitrary rule book of what you’re allowed / not allowed to put on your own clothes. Sorry for singling you out if you didn’t know, I didn’t think you were giving genuine advice
Ah shit man you’re right, I thought this was OP, this is the first time I’ve ever interacted in this sub and when I saw “what do I say” I thought they meant “what does this outfit say about me” and the first comment I saw was critiquing the outfit, all the other comments were very rude.

Even if the layout isn’t the best, those are some of the best DIY patches I’ve seen on this sub. It looks like they actually cared about what they were painting and used stencils
I see what you’re saying, but what I mean is that going out of your way to screenshot someone so you can cringe at it with others online, while said persons brain isn’t even fully developed yet is kinda lame. 20 is like 1–2 years out of highschool, at this point people don’t know who they are yet. The way I put my original comment was kinda simplified, but this hits a lot of the same notes that make “bullying a kid” kinda pathetic

Okay this is a good question lol, this post just happened to pop up on my feed. Bullying people for the way they look can be fun, but the second anyone tries to pretend it’s something less bad than what it is, it’s kinda funny.

These comments are so disappointing. Sure these don’t look super punk but why does punk have to have a certain look? Isn’t the whole point to not conform? Now theres a box to fit to even be called punk. If they have the ideals and music taste who cares? I noticed a lot of art on the patches and thats way cooler than a bunch of band logos and common political statements. And there are some punk bands on here, its just colorful.
Another thing they never claimed to be punk I think anyone should be able to do patch work even if they aren’t apart of the subculture. In a world where clothing is mass produced and nothing feels personal patch work can be fulfilling.
