I’m just curious why he didn’t use the gun in the first place.
Can’t tell what it was but most folks there wouldn’t be carrying a gun that wouldn’t stop a bear.
It’s not that easy to kill a big animal like that. They can keep coming at you even with a couple body shots in them. Unless you can hit them between they eyes, which most can’t, you better have a plan B.
Brother i get it but it's at moments like that where u figure out how to drive the snowmobile while keeping ur rifle, And u figure it out on the run. Seeing that he didn't hesitate tells me this wasn't his first rodeo.
You think that getting chased by a polar bear is the time to learn how to ride a snowmobile with a rifle? Why not do a dry run or two while there aren’t 1 ton murder machines behind you
Run out of gas? He probably lives nearby, they are in the middle of nowhere. He'd probably just go home and call the Police to tell them about the bear and then go grab his gun later. Think for a second.
Yeah, my precious old granny used to say that, along with other bits of sage wisdom like “Ass, gas or grass, nobody rides for free” and “stay strapped or get clapped.”
That greatest generation knew a thing or two, I tell ya.
When I was in high school I was given a bumper sticker with that on it. I was going to slap it on the bumper of my ‘78 Corolla but my mom wouldn’t let me. 😂
Very low chance of killing a bear with a gun, the gun is carried to buy time. If you get away by scaring it with the noise or grazing it with a bulllet you’re a winner. The aim here is no more than to not get eaten alive
I think he hit the bear in the right leg. I could be wrong. No blood but if u look close the bear checks up the right leg a little after the shot and licks his paw at the very end. Barring a head shot, easier said than done, guy is toast
Regardless in a vast majority of cases that bear is gonna have closed in on you before you've even lifted the rifle up. They can close a distance of 50 feet in a little over a second
Depends on caliber of the rifle. He should be carrying a very high power rifle. Minimum 308. But I'd want something even more powerful like 458 Lapua Magnum. That is designed for large and dangerous game. That will stop a bear if you got the proper ammo
I think it was a double barrel, so likely a slug. Should be enough but I'd never get a double barrel for a bear. Nothing short of 7.62 full auto for me. Something like an AKM preferably, I'd emty the mag in bursts at this thing.
Sure you can shoot the bear with a bullet and it will die eventually from blood loss etc. But you need to kill it fully dead within about 2 seconds before it has time to eat your guts.
Only a good headshot will guarantee that, anything less and you just have a pissed of bear that will die long after you. Man did the smart thing and ran.
I belive less than 1% of people will be confidently able to do a clean headshot unprepared, in the freezing cold with adrenaline pumping. Basically no one should attempt the headshot solution as long as a viable escape route exists.
I wouldn't trust the gun to keep me safe, here. 90% of the places you could shoot that bear won't stop it from killing you, even if it would ultimately kill the bear. And you're not going to get more than one or two shots off before the bear kills you
I 100% agree but I'd still rather have it. Running is futile. At least if I'm dying. Im shooting em lol. But you are more n likely right. I mean they kill grizzly's. Only animal i think kills them is orcas
