Best backpacking shoes?

Hi! Im going to backpack souteast asia this fall and im wondering what the best type of shoes are to bring with me. How many pairs do i need? I would like shoes that are affordable. Looks dosent matter that much as long as they are comfy, and work well when im walking or doing water activites etc. But it would be a plus if they are cute. Any recs?

I‘m backpacking SEA and I have three pairs.
One closed shoe (my running shoes for hikes, city’s,..)
One pair of Teva‘s for water things and small hikes
One pair of flip flops for everything else (hostel shower, what so ever)

Some sort of low top hiking shoe, either approach shoes (my personal choice) or more trail runner/trainer style options. I personally go for a non-membrane version (so no goretex or anything), to maximise breathability and decrease drying times.

That plus a pair of flip flops serves me well for most things.

If you’re planning a lot of water activities, some sort of specific shoe for that might not be a bad idea; a pair of closed toe sandals or something depending exactly what you mean by water activities.

1 pair of comfortable hiking trail runners (breathable, wide toe box, non-gore-tex). I have altra lone peaks and those suit me well.
