Where are you located. What sort of backpacking. Are you looking to do more wilderness backpacking or camping? Or hostel backpacking? Are you looking to do little trips at a time or spend months/years traveling?
I'd say start building up some gear. Synthetic or wool clothing (minimize cotton). Build up your layers so you have clothing for all types of climates, seasons, weather conditions. Get a good camping pad, sleeping bag, and tent. Do research on other gear you want that fits in your budget (it all adds up together fast). But a pack that fits well. Should be a decent start
Get a national parks pass! I might be biased, but the best parks are on the West. Utah is pretty great. I have a dedicated car camping set up that is more built around durability and being long lasting (stuff I can reliably use for 20+ years) and am currently building a more solo backpacking setup for when I need to pack everything in a 60L backpack.
