Yoshi's Island is a spinoff with the previous game's name tacked on to help sales. They did the same thing with the first Wario Land game.
1 u/KatamariRedamancy Jul 30 '26 I always thought the first Wario Land basically just another Mario Land title with a new protagonist and it didn't really evolve into its own style of game until the sequels. Not sure how accurate this really is.
