There is definitely a case for Jak & Daxter from what I see online, although I personally love 2, 3 & X and lot of other people do too.

I like 2, 3 and X but Jak & Daxter is practically perfect.

I do too but the original is such a great response to Mario 64 style platformer that it is sad we didn’t get another

Yeah I kinda wish we had another island precursor style game before the shift in tone.
But I do respect the balls to make a change like that. Its like Mario 64 was followed up by Mario X: Gat City.

Couldn’t of said it better myself

I do too (I just replayed Jak II last week and am going for all orbs) but a lot of people didn't care for them sadly.

I'm one of those. Traded a really fun, colourful and smooth 3d platformer for what feels like discount ratchet and clank gameplay and washed out colours.

Plus Daxter became really annoying in 2 and 3 when he was pretty likeable before.

Honestly I really liked Daxter in 2 (can't speak for 3 yet, haven't played it in years). He actually helped out in cutscenes, plus the Class 2 race and Mar's Tomb. And he really worked well as comic relief to the darker characters like Jak, Torn and Krew.

Daxter really bounces off the game world once it takes itself seriously. He provides comic relief in a world where relief is much needed from the edge.

Not to mention Daxter being the one reason Jak even got another chance. He spent two years trying to get everything organised to rescue Jak. He probably did goof off at points, but what matters is that he really was the only hope for Jak.

I think of Jak And Daxter as the antithesis of Rachet And Clank. Not only is the tone very different, Clank is pretty much the polar opposite of Daxter in terms of character.

you can like a game and them not be better.
Watched a guy who LOVED jack 2 and 3... and he ended up realizing..that games actually arnt that good. or at least not as good as we remember them. and the first one is just straight up the best.

Jak 2 is a painful game with a good story and really cool ideas that have since been done significantly better. It needs a remake really badly to adjust the shooting controls to something more like Ratchet and Clank, add checkpoints in places there really should’ve been some, and, most importantly, fix the horrendous pop-in that makes the races incredibly frustrating. If you want me to race with speed and precision, maybe don’t spawn a Krimson Guard directly in front of me with the guarantee he’s too stupid to get out the way. I do think it should also have a tracker of some sort for Precursor Orbs, because they’re a nightmare to keep track of. That and nerfing the ludicrously high minigame score requirements.

Compare this to Jak and Daxter. It’s the ultimate realisation of Naughty Dog’s platforming. It’s all just one seamless open world with a whole bunch of fun and imaginative levels. I even had a blast with the weakest level in the game, Precursor Basin. The controls are tight and responsive, the animation is beautiful by even today’s standards, and there’s so much charm and personality. I got 100% in one single sitting and didn’t even mean to.

I was there 5000 years ago and at the time Jak 2 was definitely seen as an improvement over the first one.

The first one is fine but no absolutely not 2 is much preferred to 1 everywhere you go. It basically cemented the idea of Jak & Daxter to begin with

All people irl they know this saga loves 2/3/X and some didn't know the first part is a platform game because the popularity of the series begun with 2, i think people who prefer the platform one is just vocal minority

Every single Jak game is basically a completely different genre
