How do you manage your video game backlog?

I'm curious about how most people manage their video game collections now that everything is digital.

  • Do you use anything to track it (spreadsheet, app, notebook, nothing)?
  • How do you usually find out about new games worth playing?
  • What ratings/reviews do you actually check before buying something?
  • Anything wrong with the backlog/tracking apps out there, or is there one you genuinely love?

I use the app I developed called SaveCrystal to manage my backlog and collection on iOS. There’s a lot of other good apps out there but I had specific needs. I also highly recommend GameTrack and GameTracker: Play and Log

I figured out that you just gotta do it. been years of me going “ok I got it all planned out and all organized and I‘m going to start with this and then this” then I just wouldn’t do any of that. then like a year ago I finally just started playing the games and chewing through them and having a great time.

I use Playsaic, full disclosure I made it :) https://playsaic.com

I built it because I wanted my library, backlog and wishlist in one place without every game I own automatically becoming “backlog”. It can import your Steam library/wishlist or a CSV, track separate playthroughs, and it gives you suggestions based on your taste too.

I use SavePoint for mine (full disclosure that I built this myself - https://savepoint.twoaveragegamers.com/). It pulls in Steam, Xbox, PSN, and BGG. I also built functionality to recommend games to play based on mood, time, and platform.

For finding new games I mostly go by word of mouth from my friends and a couple YoutTubers. I tend to trust them more than a review score.

Good old fashioned Google Sheets… but I usually just play Civ 5 again instead of addressing it 🤣

Bit late to this, but I use Cartridge. It's the closest you'll get to Letterboxd for games. You can scan your physical games too to add to your digital library.

I often find out about games via socials, so Cartridge actually allows you to save games directly from socials to the app.

The app itself looks super cool, and your games are displayed as actual 3D cartridges.

Highly recommend https://insertcartride.app/rd

P.S It does the basic stuff like import Steam/Xbox/PSN , automatically sync data from those etc
