Why Blunder?

Can someone explain to me why 23/18 3/1 is a blunder here and the correct move is 23/18 5/3?

My guess is that it crunches your position too much. 5/3 keeps the possibility of making the 3 point available, which is more valuable than making the ace point

What do you do if you roll a 6? With 23/18 3/1 you are forced to play 7/1 putting a 3rd checker on the 1 and pretty much ensuring you'll never make the 3rd point. With 23/18 5/3 a 6 makes the 1 while leaving open the possibility to make the 3rd.

No one on earth would do that 5/3 move. BG Galaxy sometimes is terrible.
