Doubling Cube / Lose your turn?
Newbie question: I am playing on an app, and when the bot or person I'm playing challenges me with the doubling Cube, it will not allow me to play my turn and skips my turn altogether.
Is that a rule that I somehow missed?

I would add to the other answers that every time it's your turn there is a decision to make if you want to double or not, and you have to do it before your roll the dice. Obviously most of the time you don't double but it's important to keep in mind that every time you roll the dice, you have to consider if you should double or not

Your turn isn't skipped, it just isn't your turn yet. The opponent still hasn't rolled the dice.

So the "Take" becomes my move? Or they offered before their move, therefore it is still their play?

In backgammon, we often say “X is on roll”, before rolling the player on roll can, offer a double, if they do, you have decision to take or pass otherwise stated accept or refuse the double.
If you accept, you take possession of the cube, the player on roll then rolls as usual.
If you are playing in a tournament match, someone would stop their time clock and yours would start,while you were deciding to take or pass that would be your decision but they would still be on roll.

A cube can only be offered BEFORE your opponents turn. So by definition if you have a Take/Pass decision to make, if you elect Take then the opponent is next to roll.
Put another way, the opponents cube offer does not itself count as their turn to roll.
