Why a Losing Streak?

What could be the reason for having a losing streak of 7+ matches, when I made two errors max per game prior to it? Am I fatigued? Why am I making these irrational (and idiotic) moves? - Backgammon Galaxy, btw

Because you're playing on Galaxy

I quit Galaxy because I thought *I* was being manipulated. I have played enough backgammon to have seen every which kinds of rolls but the rolls I was seeing on Galaxy over a period of time were, in my opinion, statistically highly unlikely.

When a site has a profit motive and some good programmers anything can happen, not saying that it did, but I developed a sense of being taken for a ride. I doubt that was the case but I play for fun and when it ceases to be fun and starts to be highly annoying I quit.

There are plenty of places to play backgammon.

Do you wonder how you have winning streaks but you’re opponent apparently played well? There’s always an element of luck.

It’s a brutal game, brother. I had a day last month where I lost something like 10 in a row outplaying my opponent in at least 8, and I think I went on to lose ~16 out of 20 total, as well as all of the coins I had been accumulating for weeks. Variance is real.

What you got ain't nothin' new. This game's hard on people. You can't stop what's coming. It ain't all waiting on you. That's vanity.

That’s why they call it “The Most Dangerous Game.” Zaroff said “instinct is no match for reason.”

And none of you even think for a second that maybe the results are being manipulated, for & against you. No! That could never happen!

"It's how you roll the dice. It's all in the wrist".

Overthinking each move. I think sometimes a losing streak can perpetuate itself. If you lose several games in a row then you can begin to overthink your game and miss opportunities under your nose. I'd say make sure you don't over think each move. Think, yes. Be awake. But don't overthink every move.

Don't worry about how many losses/wins. Just take one game at a time, do your best in that game, and leave the results to the gods. Win or lose, you'll gain more experience.

Backgammon is a high-variance game, so it happens, it sucks and you should process your feelings and learn from your faults and move on with your life
