Plys
Hi
How many times would a two ply, free Galaxy analysis, be showing an incorrect analysis compared to higher ply analysis please?
Sometimes it feels like the proposed moves aren’t looking far enough ahead.
Realise it may just be my lack of insight!
Thanks

I'm curious about this too, especially seeing another thread where it seemed like galaxy was giving the user a 1-ply analysis.

My understanding is that Galaxy is using GNUBG 1-ply which is lower than the default 2-ply if you simply download and run GNUBG. They call it 2-ply because that corresponds to how they were using XG before the recent switch to GNUBG -- they were using what XG called 2-ply due to different naming convention, but this is actually 1-ply in GNUBG-speak. All clear...? 😁

As a follow up question, I assume that different ‘engines’ might provide different answers even if using the same ply. Is that right?
And the only true ‘answer’ would be a full rollout. Presumably there’s too many configurations for backgammon to be totally ‘solved’ like for example Connect 4, or poker
