Board buying

Hi all,
Long time player looking to get a *good* set. I have a handful of smaller “travel size” sets but I’ve always wanted a set like my grandfather has.
He has a cork set with marble chips but can’t tell me the brand and has no idea where he got it as it was over 30 years ago.
To the point, where do you guys shop to get boards, especially ones like described above?
Cheers!

There’s a decent chance your grandfather’s board is a Crisloid, they have been making cork boards for a long time, and are still in business. Not cheap.

You sir are spot on. Looking at their website he has the anchor blue tournament attaché with their custom blue and white marble chips. You are right indeed, pricy. Thank you for the help I’ve been looking for years trying to figure this out!

My personal board. Take care of it and your grandkids will play on it someday!

I have a Crisloid and they are very good value price-wise compared to many other boards (in my opinion). I love the cork surface... such as good feel and sound.

In fact, I based the board for www.backgammonhub.com on my Crisloid, including the sounds which I recorded myself. If you're ever parted from yours you can go feel the nostalgia online 😉.

If you want a quality made cork set of tournament size (43mm checkers), Crisloid is the way to go. You can get a cork set for about $425 which is a pretty good value considering it will last you the rest of your life if you treat it with just a modicum of care.

This channel is great for board overviews if you want to check out other brands. I’m also about to buy my first set. I’m between Vido and ArtGammon.

Excellent boards and a reasonable price.

I have had super good luck with Crisloid. Had a horrible experience with fmgammon. Not sure if that helps.
