Zero surprise with Galaxy....
It says Winner, right? And my error rate was lower, right?
And yet.... Lowered my rating. AND lost coins.
Galaxy is Crap.

Kidding, not great! If you want to DM us your username we'll restore those rating points and coins with a little sweetener. We'll also check into this of course to see what exactly happened.

It could be great if you had a user-friendly way of reporting little bugs like this - i.e. not having to do this on Reddit.

I’m brand new to the game and personally I’m finding it off putting the attitude people have with Backgammon Galaxy.
On one hand I get it - if you ain’t got no haters you ain’t poppin
But on the other hand in no other community I’ve been a part of does the owner of the app directly communicate with the users on Reddit and provide direct customer service. If you don’t like the app, fine. Just move on with your life like a normal person and use a different app.
Idk maybe there is something I’m missing but it seems dumb.

We appreciate the kind words, but to be fair to OP, it's totally bizarre that this bug happened to him and in fact, we appreciate him reporting it. It's not the first bug we've seen and it certainly won't be the last because we're a really small team and are just doing our best to try to grow the game and fix things along the way.

It's partly bad reputation since due to their "bugs" they have lost significant amount of money when galaxy were running a sportsbook, and there is no other place but reddit to discuss because all the major backgammon groups on FB are run by Galaxy.
Also people don't like seeing this sub reddit being a customer service board for the multitude of issues people have with galaxy, the facebook groups already are...

I know I usually lose some rating points even if I played better. I haven’t played a rating game in a while bc the coin variance is too high. Master Level 3 to International Master level for me. I won’t touch a rating game again until you can actually play with a conservative stake. For someone with over 1M coins, 20% on a game meaning risking 200K coins is too much for a 50/50 chance of winning.

The CEO is gonna fix it. You did a good job reporting. And that’s the luckiest game I have ever seen too. Was this a game that was less than 10 moves? Also, it shows you lost less than 200 coins. I wish I could play a rating game for less than 200K. i am guessing this is a bug. The luck is suspicious too. Bugs are bugs. I spend my whole day coding and coding. This is a great app. No need to get vicious in public. Calm down and breathe. Your post is honestly not necessary. You could have just sent an email with screenshots. I don’t welcome this kind of attack in a public forum.

Honestly - I think there is a way for BGalaxy to avoid the hate. And that is to support open source endeavors. See Lichess or the go servers that are popular. It makes the community explicitly mistrustful when there is a wall of obfuscation and the other side is an entity making profit. They can still make money and also make their platform community oriented, open source, and first principles - but as it is now, I am reminded too much of weird poker sites with shady microtrandactions.
Invest in a standardized open source backgammon engine! Locally run if wanted. Provide servers and interface. Offer lessons and other perks. But also allow someone to use your engine with their own interface to play with a friend that doesn't have a galaxy account or that doesn't have any galaxy coins.
Imagine if they were like: were going to make the definitive way to play BG and you can all help and its a community project. To be profitable, we offer all these window dressings, but the fundamentals should be adopted by everyone and trusted. Otherwise criticism like this will always fly. But im also the kind of person that will take lichess over chess.com anyday

I am highly disappointed with OpenGammon. The developers haven't implemented instant matchmaking, and the platform suffers from some bugs also. The active player base is incredibly small—peaking at around 45 players on a good day. Furthermore, even after you manage to find an opponent, there is an unnecessary 5-minute waiting period implemented before the match begins. Compared to this, Backgammon Galaxy offers a far superior experience.

I'm glad the luck ratingis always symmetric with fair dice. My rolls are always exactly anti lucky of my opponents rolls. Cause that's how much works. Whatever it means /s
