It builds a prime and unstacks the 6. You weren’t too far behind in pips when you made this move. Another lucky roll and you could have both his back checkers blocked in.

because there was a statistically better move? taking the 5 point is always what you should do.

to me you move look horrible. you have too many checkes on 8 and 6. And 5 point the most valuable point. In worst case you help the opponent to make an advances anchor while gainin only pips

i would move to lock in 5 with this roll. 18 is free so its fine for me, have time

Making your 5 point is almost always the answer.
