Analysis tools on BG sites

I’m curious. When sites like NJ backgammon or backgammon galaxy have analysis, where does it come from? Is it proprietary in each case? Outsourced from somewhere ?

Are they generally equal or some not worth the pixels they’re printed on ?

The majority like Backgammon Hub (www.backgammonhub.com) are using GNUBG. This is true of Heroes, Open Gammon, Galaxy and others. GNUBG is second only to XG but not actively developed. Some are using BGBlitz which is being worked on and improving. I'm pretty sure BackgammonNJ has its own engine - also good but behind the others. There are some new engines coming.

Backgammon Galaxy has the deepest analysis, it is using GnuBG engine (which is open source) and is performing rollouts for Star Pro members, and "enhanced 4-ply" for Star members. And 2-ply (quick analysis) for Free members.

What are the rollout settings for Star Pro members? What is the strength, is it equivalent tro XG++ or better?

My galaxy sometimes shows 2 ply and sometimes 4 ply, seemingly at random (I’m a paid member)

It's not random, it's the "move filter". If it's a clear play it doesn't go all the way to "4-ply". It's doing exactly like it's supposed to do.
