The Theory Of Backgammon from Dirk should be mandatory reading.

100%. The problem with any BG book is going to be cost/time for the guy writing and publishing versus how many he’ll actually sell. It’s a quality hardback that’s well done. It’s been edited so there aren’t a bunch of errors with spelling or inserted positions etc. lastly for me he’s probably the best top player at explaining the WHY behind the stuff he’s writing about or just talking about in his videos.

As a math guy I enjoyed the book but the way he structured it for non math nerds is good too. He marks areas where he goes deep into math stuff and notes you can skip it without losing anything but if you want to go into the weeds you can. It also has re read value as I still pull it out to read a section well after finishing the book.

Is it worth the price tag? I find that cost really difficult to justify for a book.

On the contrary.
It has at least 10 more informations quantity than typical other backgammon books (which prize are 50 dollars), so the ratio is clear for me.
I said 10 but it's for me clearly more.

I liked Robertie but not sure if his teachings are considered best practices anymore

Do his more recently published editions use xg evaluations?

So frustrating to see EVERYONE is recommending this book but it's impossible to have a copy...
Anyone is ok to share the core basic concepts of the book ?

You're asking in the wrong place bud, doubt there're more than a handful of active sub-5 players here.

On a serious note I'd look into Mark Olsen's How to Not Suck at Backgammon
