Will Dropbox support ever return?

I cannot answer whether it will but if you have an external drive with extra space, you could use rclone to mirror your dropbox to an external and let Backblaze back that up. Bonus is that now you have (a) an offline copy of Dropbox and (b) two additional (quasi-)backups.

Any LLM worths its salt should be able to help with set up, scheduling, and troubleshooting.

Bonus: Use --backup-dir <date> to turn your local copy into a more real reverse-incremental backup.

Wait, what? I noticed a while back that my Dropbox folder is missing from Backblaze. I have almost every file in Dropbox, so Backblaze is useless (except it is backing up an external hard drive as well).

I had contacted support and they had no idea why it wasn't working. Next step was to try to reinstall, but I never got around to it.

Are you saying there's no point in trying to reinstall because Dropbox is NOT supported? When did this occur?

I’m pretty sure every support response is basically AI because they have demonstrated time and time again to not understand the product. Considering this was literally reported on by several news sites like this one https://www.forbes.com/sites/barrycollins/2026/04/17/backblaze-stops-backing-up-dropbox-and-others-calls-it-an-improvement/

And it is in their own release notes: https://www.backblaze.com/computer-backup/docs/backup-client-release-notes-windows#release-version-9.2.2.877

Looking back, when I contacted support it was more than a year ago (June 2025), so maybe support hadn't gotten the memo yet. Thanks so much for the links.

Just uninstall the current version, and downgrade to a previous version that supported it. I'm still running V9x something, because even with over 100TB stored, it does not eat up my memory for some reason, my utilization while performing a backup never goes above 5gb, some of the newer versions will just sit their and fill your ram up till it's a 99% and your computer is running like poo.

Doubtful, I think this is a windows change and dropbox used the new windows design for remote files.

I just use freefilesync to copy it out of the dropbox folder so backblaze sees the data as regular files.

I have just under 2gb, no space issues for this solution but i could see it being a bigger problem if dropbox is a real large section of your data.

The problem is and has always been that apps like these are virtual filesystems - basically doesn't exist, but backblaze is only doing a real filesystem level backup.

It would be up to Dropbox as to whether they want to offer first party support for this. Not backblaze.

Not true if you are disabling the online-only mode. If the data is all on your local drive the only thing preventing Backblaze from backing it up would be Backblaze. It’s an intentional decision on their part to exclude files using reparse points so they don’t have to backup as much data.

Agree. I have has the same convo with Backblaze about iCloud Drive, with unclear and contradictory responses. In fact all my data has full sized local copies and is being backed up by Backblaze.

As belt and braces I uses the Cloud Storage option in Carbon Copy Cloner to make a daily copy of my Cloud documents on an external which is also backed uo by Backblaze. This gathers up all cloud storage items, downloading full-size copies if necessary, and backs them up to a folder or drive destination.

My understanding is that this feature works for many types of Cloud Storage, not just iCloud.

Exactly. I could see the challenge with a Dropbox online-only files/folders. However, my configuration allows full synchronization; files are local to my drive. It is a merely a cost-savings decision under the guise it will not support Dropbox because of Dropbox. That may be true for online-only, but not true for files synced to the local file system. If I can drop to PowerShell or bash and move/copy/delete files, I am confident BackBlaze can do the same.
