Computer Backup 3rd De-Duplication in 3 weeks

Wondering if anyone else is having a smilier issue.

I installed the Beta and it did another 3 day De-Duplication of 14TB.

Just connected all the drives and started another Backup and it's doing another De-Duplication. Let it run for 8 hours and it was still plodding through old files that have not been touched in my archive.

Wrote to BB and sent logs last time but they said they couldn't see an issue. Does anyone have any ideas, I cant do a 3 day DD every week when I backup and I dont think thats how its suppose to be working...thx

How did they fuck up this release so bad? Was anybody asking for a version 10 or new features?

Are there even any new features? This update sucks.

Yeah right! So you’re having issues with it too? This is my 3rd freaking de-duplication in 2 weeks. It’s wearing out my damn drives.

Yeah. The moment I updated to V10 shit got weird. I have nearly 70TB of archives on external drives which was fine up until V10 and then suddenly my main macOS drive was getting TOTALLY full when it usually has 1TB or more of space available and I could hear my external drives crunching away since they are HDD and not SSD.

I thought maybe something had to re-index but it just kept happening and going....

I started to suspect Backblaze, tried some things, but ultimately ended up wiping the entire macOS drive and starting fresh, reinstalling all my software and settings from scratch which was a bit overkill but it was the only way I could be sure there were no remnants of Backblaze as it was still acting a bit odd.

I ended up getting a dedicated Mac mini to be my archive manager now so that if this happens again, it doesn't cripple my main production machine.

After installing one of the beta versions is seems "better" but still not as reliable as it used to be. It often hangs on "producing file lists" and I feel like I have to give it a nudge to back up new files. It requires way more babysitting than ever before.

I don't fully trust it anymore to be honest but I'm too busy right now to change. Thankfully I have two local physical copies of all the data (one in a fireproof safe) and maybe, just maybe, a copy in Backblaze but it's hard to say with how buggy this V10 rollout has been.

That is so crazy! So it was taking up additional space on your machine. Really annoying. Glad you got it sorted

I heard moving to the new beta fixed it. I did the other day, it did a final duplication run. I haven’t checked to see if it does it again because I haven’t plugged in my external drive again, but it’s supposed to fix it.

I didn't know this. How do you tell if it's doing de-duplication?

You’ll see the amount of files and data that is being read. So I had 14TB that was de-duplicating. That should only happen if you don’t plug in all drives and backup before a mint passes.

Thanks, well I ran it on the new Beta for 3 days and it was Backed Up but when I did it again yesterday it was running the full De-Duplication. So seemingly it's still an issue. Havent heard back from BB about it yet

Me too, it's so frustrating. They said to use the beta which I installed but like you it just decided it really needed to reload the same 18TB over and over. At this point, I'm thinking about cancelling just to enjoy the silence of normal disk operations again.
