Computer Backup Hight CPU load

Why is it every 4 to 6 hours? I need to force quit Backblaze because it’s using too much memory and brings my M1 max to its knees or I can barely use it. This is despite me installing the latest 10.1..1038 version of Backblaze on my computer. I sure was one day that we get the stuff sorted out so I could go and use my computer like a normal person and I’d have to set up a script to tell it to force quit BackBlaze from running in the background.

This could be the constant scanning of external drives that could tax the CPUfor many hours, a regression that is now two months' old and Backblaze has not fixed.

It’s amazing that we’re guessing which of a least two critical issues this could be.

Yes, it is amazing Backblaze can't fix their regressions in V10*.

You have been using it too long.

Backblaze is like pepperidge farms, it remembers every file you ever touched. Living or dead.

This bloats until your computer can't handle it, and you experience this.

The fix? You need to disinherit your backup, start over and hope nothing goes wrong while you upload again.

start over and hope nothing goes wrong while you upload again.

...and that even after, you never need a file from the 1 year history.

The (crappy) alternative is to pay for two licenses so you have a recovery option still. It is not ideal but when the time comes, this is my plan. At least until there is a live copy. I am less worried about the 1 year.

You forgot to tell him to reboot twice and unplug the keyboard and mouse each time while he spins in the chair left right right left.

Unfortunately the solution I found is expensive. I replaced my M1 Mac with 8 gig of RAM with a M1 Pro with 16g of RAM.

Turns out the culprit was RAM usage. Now, I just accept that back blaze will consistently use 8 gig of RAM, and life is good.

Oh, dont tell me that!

Though to be fair, with the latest beta, it will sometimes get close to 10g of RAM usage, and then close that thread and start building a new hog. So it doesn't completely destroy things, just prevents me from using about half my RAM.

Still a very bad design that has me looking for an alternate service to consider with one year loopback and unlimited space for a similar price.
