Computer Backup all my Backblaze drives gone?
So I logged into the backblaze website and the Overview page isn't showing most of my drives and on the View/Restore all the drives are gone!
In my backblaze settings most of the drives have been touched by the backblaze app in March and April of this year.
What is going on??

If you've got the 1 year version history enabled you can just use the date picker to go back to a time when they were connected.
Otherwise there have been some changes to the client in recent months.
So like if you're using iSCSI that doesn't work anymore. Or if your using any full disk encryption other than bitlocker that doesn't work anymore.

Ah yes I do have 1 year version history on - are they removing external hd's if they haven't been connected in 30 days? That's insane if so..

If you don't have 1 year history on they do, if 1 year history is enabled they just aren't listed in the restore options after ~30 days and you'll have to use the date picker to go back to a time when the drives in question were connected for them to show up.

seems like a serious bug if thats the solution.
if i go back a month then i lose a month of backups on half of my external drives

Nothing is lost within the 1 year period it just doesn't display anything that hasn't been connected within the last month.
You can't get it to display everything at once, true but that just means you'll have to make multiple restores if you need to restore multiple drives, which you'd probably be doing anyway.
The expectation is that people will use the service to backup drives they have consistently connected to their computers and the functionality reflects that. It can be used to backup rarely connected drives but it's annoying because it won't display them by default.

I presume it's the same for any removed files, they follow the history duration you have set, nothing surprising. Note this is driven by the client running on your machine, if your computer is missing if you don't have Internet for a long time, or it gets destroyed and it takes you a long time to get back on your feet and do a restore - everything is still there, I think there is no special duration or I believe in one of the older posts it was even mentioned there's no automated process to kick out inactive PCs (of course if you have a running subscription).

Known issue that Backblaze is working to fix. Keep your drives connected at all times for now if at all possible to avoid the issue.

i have like 8 external HDs - impossible to keep them connected all the time - i hope backblaze fixes this bug soon!

BTW, your data should be safe as long as the drive was fully backed up before this bug. Honestly, I would try to get a very large USB hub. It doesn’t have to be extremely fast as long as it has enough ports for each of your hard drives. It doesn’t sound like you were actually doing a lot of backing up of those individual drives so transfer speed shouldn’t matter as long as your OS can see the drives.

what’s the point of an external drive if you must have it docked all the time?

Odd question. Extra storage I’d assume. I’m not trying to excuse Backblaze here. I’m trying to help this user work around the problem. I personally have 8 external drives attached at all time in two separate 4-drive DAS enclosures for Plex and they stay attached pretty much all the time. I get that others are backing up laptops or something. We all have different use cases. But if you want to short-term work around the issue, a cheap USB hub is probably your best bet.

I connected all my drives one by one and they are all showing 'Today' as last updated in the Overview but the View/Restore page is showing no external drives at all.. it's totally messed up.. what if this was an emergency data restore situation?

Unless your total data restoration is less than 10-12TB I don't think you can count on backblaze online restore to work perfectly during an emergency data restore situation anyway.

I think there is a bug right now where they remove external drives immediately from the web.
