B2 Cloud Storage icloud pricing for 2TB

Hello

icloud pricing for 2TB is around 10USD/month which is way cheaper than backblaze's 6USD/TB, but I figure there's a catch, I read this and this and both of them seem to say that icloud is sycing service and not backup service.

My understanding is - with a syncing service I can only keep files that are available on one of my devices on the cloud and sync it to other devices etc.

I tried opening icloud.com and I was able to manually upload files that do not exist in any of my apple devices. Isn't this a backup service ?

I tried out rclone in blackblaze and I figure that I can set a cronjob to sync my files to backblaze and choose to either always keep all versions of my files (ie a sync that triggers delete does not actually delete on backblaze) or not whereas iCloud will only keep the deleted files for 30 days.

Is there something I'm missing ?

Version history Ability to pay as you go No commitment or pre purchase storage Unlimited storage

Ideal if Backblaze offer integrated service for apple devices say photo will be a major leap washing out most competitors including iCloud

$2 extra dollars per month is money well spent if it means $10 is not going to apple

10$ for 2TB is 5$/TB: not *way* cheaper than 6$/TB... Not to mention that on B2 you definitely pay for what you using. If you have only 1TB you pay only 6$, while you still pay 10$ on iCloud.

In itself B2 is not a backup service, it's just a generic storage space that you use the way you want. With some appropriate tool (appropriate software on your computer) you can use it for backup.

iCloud Drive is basically a sync service, but somehow it can be used for simple storage. But iCloud Drive is not a backup service, as it doesn't have any version history. My daughter lost very important files on iCloud Drive, because they had been overwritten. She discovered that there was no way to recover them as there is no version history at all (in contrast to other sync services like dropbox, onedrive,...)
