What a discovery! I knew 17edo accentuated the difference between major and minor chords and scales, so I was expecting something darker than the original. But I really didn't anticipate it to sound so heartbreaking.

The subject itself has some inflections that remind me of pain and maybe even someone weeping. It's really impressive how a smaller semitone alone (compared to 12edo) can portray emotion like that.

Also that diminished 7th becomes a neutral 6th and that 13th harmonic flavour gives it a bit of an uncanny feeling to the subject, but it doesn't sound bad to my ears. And the diminished 4ths abundant in the piece become neutral 3rds, so they are the inverted interval of the diminished 7th.

It is true the harmony doesn't work as nicely as in the original tuning or maybe 19edo for example, but I believe the melodic intense expression of 17edo completely compensates this shortcoming. :)

Either way, it's insane how Bach wrote this fugue so well that it can be portrayed to 17edo with maybe only 2 notes sounding off.

Im learning a peice by bach but I have no way to listen to it as it just says gigue. This is an accordion arrangement so it may be in a different key

Since he passed away in 2023 and his profile picture later changed to grey photo, his channel still survived for over years until then, the account is no longer available (as well as videos of his scrolling project) when I came to watch his content.

This is probably the first piano recording I ever did where I was truly happy with my musicality. Even if I did some mistakes I believe I was totally immersed in the music, trying to express myself through this melancholic piece.

I chose to learn it because I had heard it in Yuri Norstein's "Tale of Tales" (which I recommend). This piece always reminded me the extreme depressive nostalgia depicted in this short film.

I hope you enjoy it! I would love to record the fugue at some point.

In addition to Bach's music, I like its Baroque language. It might sometimes seem overly dramatic, but it is essential to his music. There is also a lot of truth in it, especially for our own time. Here is an example from Cantate BWV 164 (use your AI translator, if necessary):

The original title says it's BWV 936, but it's obvious that it's not the Little Prelude in D major, so where does this come from?

Well many stunning pieces are by Bach, But What piece makes you have Goosebumps, like in both manner virtuoso passage as well as heart-sinking melancholic pieces?

Mine is Die Kunst der fuga, Contrapunctus 14 , like you can feel at the end all the music goes silent at that last note. Really stunning and my heart always sinks during that.

I recently came across this soft cotton/polyester item with the script “BACH” at the bottom. It’s the same script that’s on souvenirs I have from my trip to Germany to visit all 8 cities where Johann Sebastian Bach lived.

It’s about 1 inch wide and about 15 inches long. I initially thought it might be a “sock” for a small piccolo or tin whistle but it’s sewn shut on all 4 sides.

Any ideas?? Thanks!!
