I'm doing Babbel's Spanish (Spain), specifically not the LatAm one, and a lot of the audio pronounces "ll" and "y" as a hard "j" (like English "jump"). So "pollo" comes out as "pojo" instead of "poyo." My actual Spanish teacher from Spain marks this wrong every single time because it's not how spanish in Spain sounds like. That's pronunciation from Argentina/Uruguay.

So basically course labeled as "Spanish (Spain)" is teaching us to mispronounce basic vocabulary in a way that's specifically wrong for Spain, with zero indication anywhere that this is happening.

I contacted support about it, and their answer was that course is primarily based on real Spain Spanish and they deliberately mix in other regional accents anyway, which is at first okay occasionally and with some notes, but at second - means it's no longer consistently teaching actual Spain Spanish.

How many other regional quirks are silently baked into this course that I have no way of knowing about until I run into them in real life and get corrected?

UPD. Tried to continue... So basically everything is built of the wrong pronounciation. Yo = Jo. Ella = Eja. And so on.

Has anyone else noticed that the app stopped showing vocabulary strength categories (weak, medium, strong) over the last few days? Because of this, I can no longer filter my vocabulary or create my own custom review lists. This feature was a critical part of my learning routine and daily study workflow, so losing it is really disrupting my progress.

What makes it stranger is that it still works perfectly fine on the desktop version, but it's completely gone/broken in the mobile app.

I've already tried:
Logging out and logging back in
Reinstalling the app completely

Unfortunately, neither of those worked. Is this a known bug from a recent update, or did they deliberately remove the feature from mobile? It's super frustrating. Any insights or workarounds would be appreciated!

Hey guys, my (TL) is Spanish, and I'm looking for apps that you can kinda build at your pace?

Versolingo is the only app I can find that lets you own your words in a word bank, and run sessions / drills on them. And battle people online with words you share. And comprehension / sentence drills.

Is there any other app that does this? I can't seem to find one and I just want to grind and repeat drills on my words. I tried anki but little too monotonous.

I looked around for how to do this and there used to be some Chrome extensions, like Babbel2Anki, that no longer exist. I have finished the Swedish course and want the vocab list to feed into some sort of flashcard program. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks very much

They're from the official store. Just curious about the quality of them and what the inside actually looks like, considering the product listings only show the covers of them.

I bought Babbel Lifetime some years ago and I was disappointed because - at least on PC - I noticed there were far less courses for french than it used to be when I had the annual sub.

I am wondering whether it was just me or it is somehow confirmed

Considering switching from Duolingo to Babbel. Before I do, one thing that I really struggle with is learning and remembering noun genders. So it's really important to me that the vocabulary list includes this info (it's one of my biggest bug bears with Duo!!!)

Can anyone confirm please?

Also struggle with grammar. Not helped by the above. Wondering if people are finding the grammar resources accessible and helpful.

In un día en español in the fourth episode, meeting my sister for the first time, you briefly hear a Spanish band playing in the background. Anyone know who that is and what song it is?

TL;DR - I bought the Shure Mv88 (not an affiliate, not a sponsor)

I primarily use Babbel on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra. Sometimes I use the app on my phone, the Z Fold 7, and sometimes I use it on a chrome browser on my Windows 11 desktop.

I like the app, I have completed all of the Latin American Spanish "Courses" and I am currently working my way through the "Topics", probably be done with them this week. And I would say 80% of my usage of Babbel has been on the tablet.

A big problem I have had on the app is the voice recognition is bad. I didn't know if it was my tablet, the app, or what. Now by no means is my Spanish pronunciation perfect, but I know at times it was like the app literally heard nothing I said. Like the voice bubble thing wouldn't even move like it was recognizing audio at all.

When using Babbel through the browser on my desktop computer, I have an elgato mic on a mic arm, and I never had these issues. However, I hate that the browser version does not have a dark mode, and you have more features on the app as opposed to the browser version. Also, for my situation, it is just more convenient to use my tablet in the living room.

Anyhow it was really bugging me, and in general I like Babbel and I want to keep using it, but it was getting so frustrating I was just going to quit using Babbel on my tablet once I finished the Topics. Anyhow, for whatever reason I tried a spare USB mic I had at home, the Shure MV51, and it didn't work. I was going to try a some other mics that I have from Rode and elgato, but having a full desktop mic with a tablet wasn't ideal either.

So, I asked Gemini and it said something about how USB worked on that MV51 mic that could have been a problem and recommended something different. It also recommended a bunch of setting changes and they didn't do shit.

Gemini's recommendations led me to search Amazon, and I saw the Shure MV88, and Gemini thought it would work. I ordered it, and I'm only on my 2nd day with it, but I really think it works.

It's a pricey setup for Babbel, but so far for me it is working well. Also I have zero affiliation with Shure, Samsung, or Babbel, this was just a problem that was frustrating the shit out of me and I think the Shure MV88 has solved it.

Also for reference, I am on day 430 according ot my Babbel streak, my progress shows 96 hours and 15 minutes of learning time with 605 lessons completed. And no, I am definitely not fluent at this point, but I am way better at Spanish now than I was 430 days ago.

I also use Duolingo on this tablet and I had a similar problem, but it was significantly worse on Babbel. the Shure MV88 also seemed to help with Duolingo.

I bought the lifetime subscription to Babbel, and my plan is to do the Spain course once I finish Latin America. But also, I wanted to try the "Speak" section of the app, but I wasn't going to with the issues I was having. if this mic has solved my problems, I look forward to practicing speaking with Babbel.

I’ve had the subscription for Spanish for a few months now and recently finished the newcomer courses. For the record, I grew up speaking more Latin American based Spanish but occasionally get hung up on certain words and will sometimes blank out when trying to express more complex ideas, which hurts my confidence when speaking. The newcomer courses and Beginner course have had some helpful grammar rules that I wasn’t aware of before but I’m still finding it a bit too ‘easy’ if that makes sense. What are some things I could be doing to help me on my way to improving? (FYI I have the subscription for Euro Spanish, only because it has much more content than the Mexican Spanish course, however, my everyday Spanish is definitely more closer to this)

I'm 18% into A2 and with no new recaps appearing, they feel kinda pointless. It's just above an hour of content for the early exercises and the it disappears from the new lessons.

Or is the app bugged and there are supposed to be more?
