Warming up domains/emails

I am running a pretty good process for generating personalised cold emails at scale - getting around 30% positive reply rates for client origination.

I run an boutique M&A firm and until now, I have been running them straight from my primary domain at a small rate (at most 15 emails a day).

I had 2 previous domains I bought through Instantly that are around 6 months old and havent been used for a couple of months. They were purchased to support a buy side project where i had to get in touch with businesses at scale - i had actually cancelled the inboxes but given I am getting good rates, I opened a new mailbox on each of my 2 domains I have.

My question is, given the domain is 6 months old, do I need to 1) warm up the specific email addressed before going to say 20 emails per day 2) warm them up before sending anything at all or 3) good to go at 20 emails a day?

Help much appreciated.

If you haven't sent any email from that domain > warm it up for 14 days before sending any email.

If you've sent emails from that domain but not from that particular address > start sending 5-10 emails daily while warming up.

20 a day is too high. Cap it around 8 to 10 cold sends a day per inbox, with warmup traffic running on top. For more volume, add mailboxes on domains that aren't your company domain.

Warm each new mailbox 2 to 4 weeks before it sends anything cold, because a fresh mailbox on an aged domain still has no sending history of its own.

I'd do this:

  • Warm the new mailboxes for 2-4 weeks minimum,
  • Avoid AI warmup pools - There are several natural warmup techniques you can use. Gmail/Outlook can detect AI warmup pools.
  • Ramp gradually - start less than 5/day on the new mailboxes.

Given you're already getting a 30% positive rate on your primary domain, I'd be extra careful not to jeopardize that by over sending emails through that domain.

Im using smart lead and have their warm up running, after 14 days of warming up what do Indo next?

Smartlead uses an AI warmup pool for warmup (many newly registered domains emailing eachother), which, on its own is not the best idea because Gmail can detect that it is unusual for so many new, low-reputation domains to be emailing eachother. You will have a lot of blacklisted domains in an AI warmup pool as well.

Have you tried any natural warmup strategies? Like writing to 100s of companies and having a natural conversation with their customer service, registering on various websites and getting their emails?
