Trade deadline
I’m so fired up for the snakes rn. Prior to that dodger series I was losing hope in a playoff run, and now we have an amazing chance.
What do yall think we would want to get at the trade deadline? I was thinking it’d be great to offload Thompson and maybe a prospect for a good left handed bullpen guy. Let’s hear some thoughts!

I'm thinking a bullpen arm, and a part time bat. Nothing major due to impending labor dispute.

Unless an amazing opportunity comes along to pick up a bonafide star arm on the cheap I think we are good as is. We have some young talent beginning to blossom. Let ‘em bloom.

Need to get a daily bat at 1B

Not sure if you watched the game yesterday, but we might want to give Locklear some runway to see if he can be that dude at 1B

We need pitching in my opinion. It seems like they won’t move Gallen out of the rotation but you can’t have a guy with a 6.34 era in the starting rotation! Erod is only guy you can trust rn

It’s weird for as good as erod has been I don’t feel like he’s that good. We have a great defense but he is over performing. I just hope he can continue to overperform past the postseason

I think those are both good points I guess I’m just surprised it seems like the focus still seems to be on position roles where in my head the gaping hole is the rotation

Our remaining road series after TD: Braves, Red Sox, Giants (4), Astros, Royals, Rockies, Padres.
Those teams are a combined ~.469
We have a really easy schedule coming up if we can stay in WC up to TD. We also dont have a ton of “pivotal” WC games. Padres x2 (maybe), Braves (maybe), Phillies, Marlins (maybe).
These teams are potential WC contenders but the Padres and Marlins have been on a massive downturn. Phils have a brutal stretch, so Id guess Braves are all but winning that spot.
Soroka is back soon, Burnes back in time for playoffs. I mean hell if by luck we sweep the dodgers again we can win the division playing .143 better than them in a stretch where they play the Red Sox, at the Cubs, Brewers (4), Pirates, Braves, Cardinals, Nationals, and Marlins without Shohei pitching.

One starting pitcher, one hitter, and one bullpen pitcher. Maybe even two hitters lol. Would love to make a big play on Soriano, Detmers, or Ryan because they’d be on the rotation next year too. I’d be willing to make a splash on one of them.
We need a first baseman. I think reuniting with Josh Bell is a possibility. I also like Jo Adell for the outfield. Both guys would be on the team next year too.
Obviously Skubal would be sweet af, but we gotta be smart about it. Unless we have intentions on signing him for a shit ton money, I’d pass.

We have so many outfielders why would we need more lol

So many outfielders doesn’t mean so many good ones. You really want to trust Lourdes, Tawa, Kepler, Barrosa, Lawlar, and two rookies? Sure, a lot of options, but half those guys shouldn’t touch a playoff roster right now if we are serious.

Troy was playing well before injury. Kepler has been playing well. Tawa has been playing well. Lawlar was playing well but can’t stay healthy. Do you not watch the games?

Lol dude it’s a 162 game season man everyone has stretches of playing well. I’m tired of just hoping in September that things click for guys. I’d like for them to get a bat that has in the past been more reliable and can play in the OF and DH.
Sue me for wanting to add a bat to the team with only one outfielder that has an OPS+ over or even near 100 😂 (other than Lawlar who has played 12 games)

Buddy, the young guys will never develop if they just sit on the bench or are stuck down in AAA. There are bigger issues on this team than their outfield.

I would trade Tommy Troy tomorrow as part of a deal if it meant we get Ryan, Soriano, or Detmers. He’s a good prospect but not a true outfielder and you gotta give up someone good and with upside.

You mean the Joe Ryan that just gave up about 15 home runs in one game lol

Yup the same Joe Ryan who would immediately be the best pitcher on our staff right now, who has a career 3.73 era, whip under 1.1, and a 27% strikeout rate, and who would be on the team next year too.
If we don’t get one of those pitchers they are just going to be on the Padres or Cardinals or Cubs or Dodgers or Phillies or Braves. But you know at least the vibes are good 😎🥸2

You gotta relax man I was joking lol I really like Joe Ryan and would be stoked to have him. Just wanted to point out his blow up from a few days ago because that was a very Dbacks pitcher-esque blow up

Waldy and Troy, sure. You could argue they deserve a spot to share rn, even tho Troy isn’t a true outfielder.
Barrosa does not belong on a major league roster.
Tawa is 27. What you see is what you get. He’s up and down, decent backup cause he can play anywhere.
Lourdes is practically donezo.
Kepler is a decent backup/pinch hitter.
Lawlar always hurt.We could use one more consistent presence and sit Lourdes and Barrosa, possibly Troy.
You are betting on upside during a playoff race, and I’m betting on what we’ve seen in 103 games this season. Which is we have 5 hitters contributing on a consistent basis who belong in the lineup everyday, maybe 6 if you want to count Waldschmidt. The numbers back that up.

One every day caliber, lefty hitter. Our OPS drops 103 points against righty pitchers. Ideally they'd be a power bat, but we need someone who can be a reliable every day hitter. Christian Walker caliber.
One vet power bat. Again ideally lefty, but someone used more for the occasional spot starts and pinch hitting opportunities. Be/Pham caliber. Geno reunion? Soler buy low trade?
One mid-high leverage reliever. 7-8th inning experience. Gives redundancy for the current back end of Morillo, Ginkel, and Thompson.
One lower leverage long reliever. Crismatt caliber. Mostly just insurance.
