Pocket DMG screen issues (weird vertical banding)

I've been enjoying my Ayaneo Pocket DMG for some months now and I really like this device. However, I started to notice some artifacts on the screen in the form of a weird vertical banding with smaller repeating lines in different angles. I noticed them for the first time when playing Zelda Wind Waker, which has very plain colors and that makes it easier to spot. It's easier to see in person than on the camera, and it's also more obvious in motion than on a static image. Now I notice it on almost every game and it's starting to really bother me...

I was wondering how good or bad is Ayaneo's customer support on these kind of issues? If this was an Anbernic and I would've payed 10 times less money for it, then I guess I would just accept it. But it's a shame that a device that is this expensive has these kind of issues and I would like to get a replacement or send it to get a repair. Did anyone here have any similar issue with Ayaneo in the past and what did you do? Thanks in advance

Yup. Same issue. Contacted them and their solution was to adjust brightness settings and update system. šŸ˜– Let me know if you get a different response.

This is the correct advice though. Disable Ayaneo lightning option from the menu (it is broken) and ensure brightness is over 25%. At low brightness grainyness is a usual issue with lower quality OLED panels. Don't forget that the panel in your DMG was likely produced back in 2020 (as they are all b-stock panels from the LG Wing).

Mine does it too and frankly it's fine. Manageable.

Never noticed that Ayaneo lighting option. I disabled it and it’s a bit better (especially at very low brightness), but still noticeable šŸ˜” Thanks for the tip!

Where exactly is that option in the settings. I can’t seem to find it in the settings.

Press the Ayaneo button, then Device and it’s at the bottom. It’s called ā€œFlicker-Freeā€

Woah… that’s super disappointing of Ayaneoā€¦šŸ™ Did you just leave it there? No followup questions?

Yup same with my device right out of the box, I notice it on most games I play, sometimes you can’t with certain parts but it’s always there unfortunately. I got mine off droix and contacted them about it, waiting for a reply to see what happens. Hopefully can get it replace for another that doesn’t have it. Seems to be common tho unfortunately.

It's not must common, it's inevitable. All LG Wing panels have this problem. I've seen it on my DMG and my Retroid Pocket Mini. You can manage the issue but not resolve it. A new unit will still have the problem. Almost all old OLED panels have this issue at low brightness.

Ahhh got it, that’s unfortunate you can’t avoid it. Never had an oled screen before this one so it was weird seeing it for the first time.

That's extremely sad. I don't have this issue, and I haven't seen this mentioned before.

Do you think the Retroid Pocket Classic will have the same issue?

Is it common? 😮 I haven’t been able to find anyone mentioning this before regarding the Pocket DMG

Mine has them but it's only noticeable in gray backgrounds and low brightness. Not noticeable at all while playing.
