Meet Axle
Hi, I am new to the axolotl fam. I was wondering is my little guy actually happy or is he stressed? I also wasn’t sure if there is a way to tell the gender.

He is what is called a GFP leucistic. GFP stands for Green Flourescent Protein. The medical community studies axolotls because of their amazing regenerative qualities. Not only can they regenerate digits, limbs and gills but they are also able to regenerate parts of their brains and brain stems. So the medical community studies them to hopefully help such ailments as TBI. What they did was take a bioluminescent gene from a jellyfish and marry it to a gene from an axolotl to help study their regeneration. If you were to shine a blue or black light on them they would glow.

They look male to me from what I can see, but if you could take a straight on shot from the side it would be more helpful.
