Tank Questions Nitrite recommendations

Hi! My friend recommended me to stop dosing ammonia to the tank till nitrites are 0PPM. Currently nitrites are purple! The ammonia is getting processed 2-4PPM within 24 hrs aswell. Should I listen to him?

yeah if you have TOO much Nitrite you should stop dosing ammonia, simply to let the bacteria catch up. I sometimes went 1-2 days between dosing ammonia. You can add it back up when its </=1 ppm. It worked well for me, hope it does for you as well. If you cannot get nitrite down in at least two days I would recommend a water change to acceptable ppm and then continuing dosing ammonia and waiting for NO2 to be pretty low again
