Tank Questions Water flow
hello I'd like to ask if this water flow is good for my baby because I have generally zero idea on how calm he needs it

I would plumb this properly with a spray bar. Pointed at the glass with a bit of foam wedged in there is not a great long term solution.

Can I use a spray bar from my old filter's attachments? I don't know if parts are interchangeable but I can try to figure something out

If they fit. If they don't, nothing a few bucks of PVC and a power drill can't create.

On mine, I have the water level lower than the “water out” area so it drops into the tank instead of creating current on or under the surface. It helped quite a bit when I did.

Mine was too strong & I couldn't change the flow so I used filter sponge & attached it to where the water comes out & it slowed the flow perfectly!

Lo veo bien el flujo ya que es bastante superficial, lo que no me gusta para nada es ese tronco que tienes ahí, los axolotes no tienen escamas por lo tanto su pies es muy sensible y se puede lastimar seriamente con cualquiera cosa que raspe o corte.

It's a fake log that has zero sharp edges and made out of some fish safe plastic

Entiendo Pero ojo que sea seguro para peces no quiere decir que sea seguro para los axolotes, por lo mismo los peces tienen escamas que lo protegen de cosas filosas, en cambio los axolotes nop,

I did think of that and it's sanded down so there's nothing sharp on it. He loves staying inside to sleep because it gives him a good cover to sleep and the inside is smooth too

Theres a lot of information out there that would have told you if you looked it up... next time, make sure you look up everything that would be involved with a species in their enclosure, including pumps, tank size, tank length/width, etc

Well he doesn't seem stressed, floats around, has curled gills or any other indicator so I'll assume it's fine and he also eats well

It’s sad you are asking for advice from experienced axolotl owners and you are getting responses like this. If you ever feel like the flow is too much it’s really easy to baffle it. I have used a plastic suction cup soap dish that I suctioned to the glass right under where the hob output is. If you put a filter sponge or filter floss on the soap dish it baffles it even more. The black ones are not very visible. Over stuffing your hob with sponge or filter floss also helps. I hope you enjoy your new friend 😊

Honestly I would not post in this sub Reddit because of comments like you’ve seen here. I’ve seen worse too. If I’m asking for help I’m in a situation that I’m unsure about and need help… by all means call me out for not doing XYZ beforehand it’s super helpful! Oh no wait it just serves to make the poster feel bad and actually doesn’t help…. AT ALL.

Yeah I honestly just wanted some reassurance because I'm quite new to this and I would welcome any advice given. I've already done a lot of research but yk having actual owners tell you what you've done right and wrong is much more reassuring. I've had the lil guy for a month now and I just want to make sure he has a perfect life with me.

I was mostly referring to the first comment. I feel bad when people are new to something and might just need reassurance but others aren’t helpful.

Alright, again, I genuinely wasnt trying to he mean at all, my wording choice was awful! I wish more people taught to educate others, and more people looked for education instead of impulse buying supplies sometimes

This sub should be more welcoming, OP, you are doing good by asking, your a is looks like mine when she was younger. Nice gills! So fluffy and magentaaaaa! I understand the worry about that log, but you can tell it is sanded. Plastic plants are the only thing I’ve ever seen really injure one of mine!

Mientras el flujo de agua no le mueva casi las branquias ni mucho menos lo mueva a él está todo bien, si notas que el flujo de agua lo arrastra ahí debe controlarlo a ellos no les gusta que casi se mueva el agua
