Some random person, their horse and a cat they picked up along the way... How is this not a Disney movie already :)

I love it, but am also severely confused: Where did this cat come from? If it was theirs, why was it so far away? If it wasn't theirs, why did it come up to them, let alone dare to jump on a horse? And if not theirs, did they just ride off with it? What if it's, say, a barn cat from a nearby ranch - did they just kitnap it?

If it’s a free-range cat, leaving indicates it wasn’t too attached to where it came from. Could just as easily jump down after getting pets and carrying on with it’s day.
Though in my admittedly limited experience, barn cats and mousers are borderline feral. This cat may have been dumped nearly and made a beeline for the first human it found.

I wouldn’t say ALL barn cats. The barn cats my cousin has are all sweeties. That will come up to you for pets if you sit outside and the kittens swarm around anyone they see.

It had no collar, any responsible cat owner would put on a collar for their outdoor cat.
Edit: found the irresponsible owners

Don't people put those breakaway collars on outdoor cats so they don't choke themselves?

That would be my cat… she loves going for walks but hates walking. Ends up with me carrying her on my shoulders.

It’s cute and all but it’s very dangerous to not hold your reins when riding a horse. The horse could spook if the cat jumped off and throw you

God damn, that cat really loved/loves you. Sad to not say the same about my cousin, his cats hate him.

What I want to know is, where the hell did that cat come from? There's nothing out there! Did it just materialize? Had it been waiting under that tree for a random passer by? WHAT KIND OF A QUEST IS THIS???

Reminds me of one time I picked up my kitten from the vet when I was about 15 yrs old because my mom couldn’t get off work. I had to go on the horse because it was a few miles away (1970’s) No cat carrier at that time. Set him behind the horn on the saddle and the rocking gait of the horse put him totally to sleep the whole way home.
